I am surprised by the small size of the grills and the shape of them, they are rounded, was expecting them to be angular similar to G8x. So bmw is just going to make each model have a totally diff and inconsistent grill, like Audi does. Got it.

Generally encouraged by this.
Triangular air intakes on the front still not great, but I can live with them.

I hope it doesn't have the same stupid rear bumper design of the 2er Gran Coupe as well as the new G80/2 |

Reading a lot of these responses, it constantly amazes me how consistently negative a lot of posters are - particularly given this is supposed to be a BMW enthusiast forum.
I mean, sure, if they released a G42 that was a complete horror show of a thing fair enough. To my eyes though this looks pretty tidy, obviously there's a few minor details that may not please everyone. At the end of the day, BMW should get at least some credit for even bothering with a 2 series coupe in todays climate. Small(ish) 2-door rear drive coupes are a vanishingly rare breed nowadays and given the push to electric (and the investments required), combined with relatively small sales figures, they could have easily just killed off this model entirely. So I'm not saying forgive them for any old nonsense they push out the door, but there are fair worse things than some slightly bulky mirrors or a triangular shaped vent. Modern safety standards and market expectations mean this will never be a Lotus Elise or Caterham 7 flyweight, so if thats what you want you'll never be happy anyway. On the positive side, I suppose though if a few minor design points are all you've got to complain about that's probably a good thing right?! |

Given the how big and ugly has the new 4 has become, this will be the one I'd consider once it's out in the showrooms. Overall I'm liking it so far.

By the way I posted this elsewhere, but in case you haven't seen it, the G42/87 based 'iM2' has been reported in Car magazine and on their website: https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-shots/bmw/im2/

Yeah the rear fender bulge looks nearly identical to the F87 and to me that's a good thing as it was kind of unique to the car. Would be cool if they introduced the car in this purple color as you don't normally see a color like this as a launch color of any car.
