The $7500 tax credit is applied as a down payment? So if I put $2k out of pocket, it's considered $9500 down? That's extremely tempting for a lease. Wonder why the pre-order page on their website doesn't reflect that.

They are still getting their act together at BMWFS. The first-line agent did not know, so she had to put me on hold for a while to consult with her managers.

Interesting, you'd think that would be a pretty sweet incentive to attract customers with lower payments. Head of marketing must have filled in for a week at BMWFS.

Yes, this is why leasing EV's are so tempting if they pass the $7500 on as a cap reduction. Not all lenders do this however, which is asinine. It totally defeats the purpose of the incentive: to get people to buy EV's. It's not for the fucking bank to keep as profit, it's for the consumer.

If BMWFS does actually pass it on to me then I will gladly cancel my Model 3 order and wait it out another year for the i4. Throw a couple grand for loyalty plus 2K out of my pocket and that should be $11.5K down. Sounds a little too generous of them, but I'll go down to my dealer this week and see what they say.

Offset your $2k out of pocket with a BMWCCA rebate, state rebate, and SCE rebate and you might be able to get it even cheaper. That's what I did on my past 3 EV's.

EV credits go to the manufacturer not the lessee. You should talk with your dealer before making a decision to order an EV for lease. I ran the numbers for an X5 45e and found the purchase to be much more compelling than the lease.

Wasn't aware of the CCA rebate, thanks for the tip. My city offers $500 towards getting a home charger, and there's the $1,500 CCFR to balance out the $1,500 pre-order deposit as well. Sounds like it should shape up to be a pretty decent deal.

Almost pre ordered, one click away and decided not to.

Still have interest but the 240 range and performance is a bit of a let down

Should be 300 miles and 0-60 in about 3.2-3.3 for m50. But then it would take sales from M3 away (at least in BMWs mind it would).

Full M Seats, side mirror, steering wheel and badges but a little shy on where performance should have been.

Or maybe the M60 is coming in 1-2 years at $80,000 that delivers it all.

True, but as I noted above BMWFS said they are passing the $7,500 along as a downpayment credit. They can then take their own tax credit on their corporate tax return. This is not a dealer issue. This is from BMWFS for their leasing. You can do as I did and call them directly to confirm.

Your welcome!

Your pre-order deposit is refundable. With the rebate, either pocket it or throw it in as a cap reduction since it's no skin of you.

I didn't say the customer get the EV credit in a lease, I said they get the cap reduction which is actually better because you don't have to wait until tax time to see the benefits. The dealer has nothing to do with it, has no say in it, and can't change it.

BMWFS gets the $7500 credit and passes that onto the leaser as a $7500 cap reduction.

Your X5 45e only comes with a $4,668 credit since it's a plug-in hybrid, not a full EV.

Genesis GV70 EV is gaining interest now...
BMWFS does pass the $7500 tax credit to the customer as a rebate, mostly with an extra amount for loyalty. For example, the i3 gets up to $10,500 rebate for leases - $7500 + $2500 loyalty/$3000 extra rebate.
By federal tax laws, if you lease a brand-new vehicle, you cannot apply for personal or business tax credit.

Since the manufacture receives all the tax credits and benefits from the leased vehicle, it would be appropriate for the BMW Financial Services to pass the savings to the new leased owner as a form of additional rebates or discounts.

If they don't, then BMW is the only manufacturer that I know it would be taking advantage of thier clients thus it makes no sense to lease and E car from BMW.

The X5 45e has a full $7500 federal tax credit as a PHEV as it can run as a full electric and has a sufficiently large battery. The Federal site for lookup of incentives is here: https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/taxevb.shtml

Also if you're in CA, you get another $1500 clean fuel rewards. My earlier point was to encourage people to do the lease vs buy comparison, which their dealer can do for them once programs are established. In my case the purchase made more sense.

My mistake, I misread 45e for 40e. As far as lease vs buy: was the $7500 passed on as a cap reduction? As with any lease comparison, the residual factor and discount really make or break the deal, but the incentives push it over the edge of insanely good. When I leased my i3, the RV was 61% because you can do a 30 month lease, which happens to be the minimum amount you need to lease for the state rebate. Did you look at a 30 moth as opposed to a traditional 36 month lease? Let's hope the i4 has an inflated RV as the i3's did.

From what I recall, no, the federal credit did not show up as a cap cost reduction, only the clean fuel rewards in CA was passed along which was $1500 of the total $9000 of ev related credits the car qualified for. The purchase on the other hand provided a full $9000 of EV credits along with another 2500 finance credit, 1000 loyalty, and I also had an OL code for a BMW event. Unlike the lease, I also didn't need to incur lease inception/return fees or incur all interest costs up front, as is done on a lease. The only downside to the purchase was paying tax on the full sale amount. All told, the 45e wound up being significantly cheaper to buy than a comparable X5 Xdrive 40i.
