While I'm running a CG-Precision DS1 catted I am a big fan of the AA catted DP. Are you running through the stock or MPerformance muffler? For me I'm really happy with the sound and tone through my stock muffler but from time to time I am tempted to pick up the MPerformance

Congrats! Looking forward to your feedback

Thanks! I'm currently running through stock exhaust. That being said, it's a 2020 model and already has a good tone. Looking forward to the additional power and decibel gains of the DP.

MP exhaust is nice but just a bit too loud for my taste.

Yep same here with a 2020 I think you will be very pleased with the outcome and pleasantly surprised at what a change the DP makes

Do you have to get a tune to operate with an aftermarket downpipe?

Will installing an aftermarket downpipe cause CEL?

Will installing an aftermarket downpipe catch flack from the dealer at service intervals?

You don't need a tune to run an aftermarket DP, but if you go catless you will get a CEL (which can be removed when you get your car tuned.)

I'm running the AA catted DP in my JB4 '21 M340 with no issues. I get my car serviced at a local euro shop, so I can't speak with certainty for the dealer experience, but I would assume the worst-case situation is them making a note of it in your car's file.

You don't need a tune. However, without tune you can expect about 15 HP gains, with tune closer to 30. I have JB4 and couldn't be happier with it.

From what I've read, often DP's will throw a CEL. This catted option from Active Autowerke will not. And you likely pay more $$ because of it.

As for the dealer.. I'd assume if you had an issue with you exhaust or turbo, they have reason to deny a warranty claim if they wanted.

Too much probably, around $500. Taking it to a reputable BMW race shop in the area.

My shop charged me $165 for the DP, 500 is way too much.

The AA downpipe has an EPA-certified GESI cat. Since it's higher quality, it does a better job "cleaning" the exhaust gasses and will not trigger your O2 sensor.

How does AA compare to Akropovich, aside from being like half the price?

I'm not too familiar with the Akrapovic product since few people here have bought it, but the AA downpipe is guaranteed to not cause a CEL while Akrapovic suggests using an ECU tune to avoid a CEL. The AA cat is 400CPSI while the Akra is 300CPSI.

Hey, I have a 2021 as well and was thinking of doing something with the exhaust. Is the DP worth it and does it make it significantly louder?

Also do you have droning in comfort vs sport? Any pops/burbles?

The DP did increase the car's volume, but if you're looking for a sound mod I'd go for an axle-back rather than DP. I had some pops when I first had the DP installed, but they seem to have faded over the last week. Hopefully, an ECU tune will fix this once MP releases their unlock.

I've had no droning in either mode, but my experience in comfort is limited since I almost always drive in sport+

Does adding a stage 2 tune change the sound much? Or does it not change much without burble mod.

So I just want to clear something up because Im new to this.

My 2021 M340i is very quiet and has no burbles/pops like the 2020 because of both the software tuning as well as the mild hybrid system, right?

Does this mean that when it will be possible to get an ECU tune on the 2021, the stock exhaust can sound like 2020 models or even better?

yes - a flash tune (Mission Performance, MHD, BM3, etc) will do that for you a piggyback (JB4, SuperChip, etc) cannot

That is entirely up to the way your chosen tuner approaches their "stage 2."

As an example my Mission Performance flash is the same whether it is stage 1 or stage 2 however I can change that. In my case both stage 1 and 2 are quiet and tame in eco and comfort and far more unhinged in Sport and Sport+.....but this is by design by MP. Very stock like in comfort very pronounced pops burbles and bangs in Sport and Sport+

It can also be set to be almost as quiet as a 21 while running Stage 2 in Sport, Sport+

The tune is also through Mission. I recently fell victim to software upgrade following recall during regular servicing, and just trying to restore car’s sound profile and performance character. Hoping the stage 2 is the answer.
