Shitty gimmick to distract people from the fact that they've cheapened the interior of the LCI G2x.

That lower bumper opening just doesn't do it for me. The pre-LCI had cohesive lines that flowed from the bumper to the hood. This just looks out of place.

Just like door projectors, this'll be hit or miss for a lot of people.

I think it's sweet.

Cool feature. It should look really good at night.I’m surprised so many people don’t like it.If the engineers can design a cool looking mini light show when you open and lock the car then why not just enjoy it.

They both have multiple LED units for the normal headlights while the PreLCI has a Laser unit under the normal headlights.
I just need a G20 LCI with Matrix LED to compare the coding to my G21 PreLCI with Laser headlights.

Maybe JayPichardo can share the G20 LCI headlight specs aswell.
They actually are completely different, as its a different technology. The preLCI is using a mechanical mechanism for the selective beam with only a few LEDs behind, the laser is only used in addition to the LED for the high beam to increase the range. Without high beam you just have LED on.

The matrix LED is more software controlled without any mechanics to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. It has much more led modules which can be turned of individually. Basically same system Mercedes and Audi is using for a while now.

So in short. They for sure will have different ECUs, as technically it's a complete different headlight unit.

Those are still light guide fed DRLs.. unless the LCI headlights are EXACTLY the same part build then it is definitely not going to be code-able.

Isn't this like an attempt at the Audi dancing lights when you first unlock?

I always use Ista P software for programming and coding ECU, light,...
I found it very useful, however, you need a device to use it. If you don't have one, you can also order the service remotely

The "selective beam" works quite well on the lasers (and for those in the US who code it). The new and previous headlight design attempt to accomplish the same task - they just do it in different ways. I assume the new US lights are likely to be gimped in some way but may have some software option to toggle on selective beam once US regulations catch up to the 21st century.

Here´s an update to this.
The LCI still uses the same FLM2 ECUs for the headlights, just with a newer software on it.
I was able to code my PreLCI with the LCI and G80 animation.
As you can see, my PreLCI can´t control the tubes separately.
https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=30075763

This is a solution for G20 LCI US spec drivers that want this animation that was only used in EU spec cars or atleast not in all US spec cars.

What red tow hook cover is that? That looks pretty slick and I'll be using the gopro mount on mine for track days.
