Start engine: Battery management

Hello,

So I just put the trickle charger on my three months old M340 and the battery is not charging for some reason. If I listen to the battery there is no burbling noise as usual when the battery is charging.
Connected the terminals under the hood, connect the charger to power and let it sit until green light shows full charge.
But nothing.
On my dash board I get this message:
“Start engine: Battery management”

What Am I missing?

Thank you in advance for your replies

Do your headlight turn on bright ?

Could rodents be gnawing on wiring ?

Check if teeth are fully clamped on positive and neg terminal points.

If you have a fuse inline to the trickle charger, check it

Also check to see if it’s set to AGM and not lithium

Thank you for your reply.

I got a different message on the dash (see picture). Took the car out of the garage, started and let it run for a while. Both messages are gone. I presume that battery charged a little bit. (Did not drove the car yet as I am waiting for my xpel to be installed.)

I did a lot of research. I believe that my old BMW trickle charger is for the normal old type batteries and is unable to charge AGM batteries.
I have ordered a CTEK charger that supposed to show up today or tomorrow. I will try that and get back to report my findings.

Couldn’t find the trouble with this issue. Is persistent.
I put a BMW (CTEK) charger to charge the battery and it is locked to the third LEd for two days now.
The lights switch block stays lit all the time.
Every 2-3 minutes there is a huming noise followed by some electric motor and a strong click in the 48V battery area.

Any techs in here with an input please?

My advice is to take it to a dealer since it’s only 3 months old and should be covered under warranty.

No reason to go to the dealer. It's just the car getting confused with the battery charger.

A few things, if you have comfort access it can play havoc with the ctek as the computer systems respond to the key, it increases power draw and resets the ctek. Or if you unlock the car or even just open the door it can reset the trickle charger.

Try opening the bonnet, locking the car and then hooking up the charger. Make sure nothing like comfort access can cause the car to cycle its systems. You can gently close the bonnet so it rests on the latch so you can periodically check the progress.

After quite a while (it's a pretty big battery don't forget), the charger should show fully charged. Then you can disconnect and unlock the car.

I have this same problem!!! It's the lithium ion battery losing registration. You have to re-register it to make this go away. But it comes back
