MST Cold Air Intake - underwhelming??
So I bought the MST CAI and just installed it tonight, was super excited for this thing given its rep for heightened sound and recommendations from a lot of people. However, I'm disappointed as I really cant hear it at all when parked giving the engine revs. Its decently loud under power, but not what I was expecting/have seen in videos.
I'm confident I installed it correctly, no CEL or any other lights. Any thoughts on this? I went with the MST specifically for the sound so want to understand if its possibly installed wrong or I was just overestimating the sound. As an FYI I also installed an Injen CAI in my buddies 2016 328 today and it sounds really really good, revving when parked and under power. Just a bit confused why mine is underwhelming when its supposed to be one of the best-sounding CAI's on the market. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks. |

Sound is subjective; if you are looking for a very loud intake, this is not for you.
Most people are looking for a balanced intake that gets them more sound but not too obnoxious, so they don't get tired of it a few weeks later.

Got it. With many recommendations on here and other places it seemed like the MST was the best for strictly loudness. Seems that could be wrong though..
Injen and BMS seem to be loud as well. Any experience with either? |

MST is more balanced. If that's your primary objective with the intake upgrade, get the Injen. Going with a different brand might get you in the same spot you are now with MST.

Appreciate the insight. Here is a video for reference that has me a bit confused. Same car, mine sounds pretty similar under load as this one but you can see at park you can clearly hear the intake vs mine you cannot.
Honestly not the end of the world either way, I'm still happy with it. Last edited by Central_Tee; 12-21-2022 at 01:41 PM.. |

So this might sound crazy lol but after I installed it Tuesday night, drove it for a couple miles to make sure everything was good and then let it sit over night, when I took it out yesterday it sounded MUCH better. Idk if I'm going crazy or what but it sounds the same as the videos.
Still doesnt make noise when at park revving the engine but idc about that to be honest, only reason I brought it up on here was cause my friends Injen we installed the same day sounds crazy at park and under load. Thanks for the videos though, it does sound really good and I'm happy with it. |
