Received a message on my BMW App that an update was available and has been downloaded and ready to install. How do I get it to install in the car?
It says the car has to be parked. Does the ignition have to be on?
The software update screen in the car says it will begin shortly but it never commences.

My experience is that if the battery isn't at 100% it won't start. I usually have to put it on charge overnight and it's ready to install the next day. I don't do a lot of lengthy drives though.

It's a brand-new car with 1200 miles. So, I need to install a trickle charger overnight and hopefully it will update tomorrow? Does the ignition have to be on?

No, you will get the notification when the ignition is on but it will tell you that to initiate you need to be parked and it will take so many minutes. At the point you initiate you turn off but the screen will probably remain on. I think when you lock the car the wing mirrors don't fold in and you hear lots of noises under the bonnet!
