Am I going to buy some G3L unicorn?
Hey, guys.
So, I am contemplating of buying a used, 2019 BMW 3 series (G3L) 318d. It has been used by my sister and only has 35k kms on it. I have tested it and it is quite sluggish, but since the price is attractive and the mileage is very good it is quite a good deal for me. I have never owned a BMW before and have no idea of these cars whatsoever, their variants, versions, types, but have always liked them and I have owned a Mini Cooper in the past if that counts The problem is that all information I could find online about that particular model leads to a 150hp motor with a compressor. But according to the vehicle's pink slip, the motor is 136hp and when I drove it it did not feel as if it had a compressor (wasn't able to test it properly, as the roads were windy and narrow, so it might have been just me). So my questions are: 1. Is this some unicorn with a very short production life? 2. Is this a naturally-aspirated motor or a compressed one? 3. Any additional info about it would be greatly appreciated like known issues (if any), short-term and long-term performance, gearbox info, etc... 4. What do G3L, 5V31 and DAW5R0K0 stand for? Thanks in advance, guys. I'm attaching pics of the pink slip and the car itself However, when I check some online car markets like autoscout, mobile, etc, there are several models like this one with 136hp and they look quite basic trim levels as well Last edited by alxg; 07-02-2023 at 03:15 AM.. |

It's a turbocharged diesel with 150ps. Where does it say on the pink slip that it has 136ps?

This appears to be a G20 318d with turbocharged Inline 4 cylinder engine, Diesel motor, with the engine code B47D20, 150 PS (148 bhp - 110 kW) at 3750 rpm and a maximum torque of 320 Nm (236 lb.ft) at 1500 rpm, and 6 speed Manual gearbox!
Online search shows that G20 and G3L are used interchangeably as chassis code, maybe G3L is German specific? 5V31 and DAW5R0K0 do not return any hit online, so I wonder those mean. https://www.ultimatespecs.com/car-sp...ries-318d.html This model is not available in the US, but the following review looks positive. https://www.whatcar.com/news/2019-bm...se-date/n19850 |

I'd just stick the VIN on a VIN decoder and take it from there.
Edit: looks like there are 318d variants with 136ps indeed. Found one on mobile.de and its VIN has the code S843 Power reduction. Last edited by drdino; 07-02-2023 at 04:04 PM.. |

Thank you guys.
Yes, G3L should be German specific, as the car is a German version, as far as I know. And, yes, as someone stated - P.2 motorverogen is indeed the power in KW. I already did a paid VIN check in some website (https://uk.vin-info.com), but it showed mostly info on the car's history, equipment and campaigns. There was not much info on the specifications, motor, etc, which was a bummer: Can you recommend some VIN-check website where I could get more information on its motor? Is it possible that info about the power reductor is included in it? This is what I got from https://uk.vin-info.com: Last edited by alxg; 07-03-2023 at 02:14 PM.. Reason: missed a question |
