How do you buy an m performance exhaust?

Im thinking of building a m440 or m330 and I want to add mpe because but I don’t see it as a build option. I see it on the bmw website but my salesman has clue about it either. How do i add it to my car?

I believe the order code for the M Performance Exhaust is ZA4. Please note, MPE is a port installed option and is now $2,500. If your Client Advisor adds ZA4 to your order it should come up. Just make sure it is the correct MPE for your particular model.

Let me know, because I will be ordering a new M340 at the end of the year and want to include it on my order.

I just got mine installed last week.

2 ways you can do it:
- have sales man add as a port installed option as mentioned above. Benefit is that you car comes ready when they deliver it

- you can order it from any local BMW dealership. Each dealer charges a slightly different price but it runs roughly $2400 plus install which is roughly $380. Benefit to this approach vs port installed option is you get your stock exhaust back and can sell it.

JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET IT! Just have yours salesperson add it to the order. It is more like $3,400 to put it on afterwards.

How do you get labor @ $380? LOL. My cousin was charged nearly $1k to remove and then install — all 3 dealers he reached out to were charging around the same. I agree that going the second route might make more sense as you can always sell the muffler and recoup some of that expense.

$1k in install….your cousin got taken lol. It’s a super easy job. On the high side it’s 2hrs but most skilled techs can do in half that time. I would take to an independent shop before paying that….

Maybe. But that was after a call to 3 different BMW shops. But yeah at an independent shop I’m pretty sure he could have gotten it done for less but he preferred to go with the dealer. He’s was def more than 2 hours and interestingly they wielded the MPE to the exhaust pipe — unlike some of the other installs I’ve seen. They charged ~$2500 for the MPE itself if I remember correctly.

I guess if one likes to pay significantly more for easy work, the dealer is the place to go.

Don’t fault people for having “peace of mind” by paying more at the dealership. The dealership is more likely to have a more solid warranty on such work. And maybe throw in a loaner on top of that.

Eh, for a car that cost that much I don’t think paying around $600 more (compared to the supposed $380) at the dealership/CRCC is going to break the bank. We all know dealer tends to charge more than Indy. For the peace of mind that comes with it I’d probably go that route too if it were me. I was merely pointing out to the other poster that it might be difficult getting this kind of job done at the dealership for $380 — at least not the dealers my cousin shopped with. I guess to each their own.

It's generally a false sense of peace of mind as the dealership techs aren't necessarily any better than performance shop techs that work on aftermarket parts much more often. But whatever makes one feel better. I do all my own work/installs so I know it's done correctly & saves a ton of $.

Good for you. Some folks might not have the tools or expertise to cut and install an exhaust system. I’m certainly a fan of DIY (I do my own oil change at mid OCI for example) but no way I’m going to install an exhaust on my own if I were interested in upgrading. Just not worth the effort or time for me. But to each their own.

Well, good on you. I would trust a dealership over a performance shop when it comes to a main component like the exhaust. And I say that because of previous unsatisfactory experiences with “performance” shops (BMW).

An FYI for anyone who doesn't want to pay an outrageous amount of $. One of the easiest exhaust systems to install. I can't imagine taking more than 30-45 min on ramps in your garage.

Does anyone know if doing it yourself will affect the warranty on a brand-new leased vehicle?

The MPE is a BMW-approved part and you can get it installed by BMW before or after delivery (as already explained). Why would you think it could affect your warranty?

Only because it involves cutting the stock exhaust

I bought the MPE on my M340 worth every penny, you just have to ask the guy you are speccing the car with and they will get you it and install it.

Do you need to cut your stock exhaust in order to install MPE?

Have you get any answer for this? I wonder does M440 also need to cut stock exhaust? As all I saw on website was M340 needs to cut. Does 440 also need a cut?
