M340i LCI with iconic sounds

I’ve had my M340i LCI for 2 weeks now. iDrive 8 has iconic sounds on it which I though weird on a petrol car..
It does augment the audio in the cabin (will do another video on it another time).
Here’s a short video of a cold start running iconic sounds off then on in comfort and sport modes.

I’ve a stock exhaust.

Why does this sound better than the 21/22's?

I didn´t hear any difference between comfort and sport in your video. But it might be easily just because you were in sport ((where I´m not user if the exhaust flap is opened)) and not sport plus (exhaust flap is for sure opened) . The difference you demonstrated and named as "Iconic sounds ON - Sport mode", is the exactly the same difference as between Comfort and Sport plus/individual with exhaust flap opened in pre-facelift version. BTW you can hear the flap at the begining of the part called "Iconic sounds ON - Sport mode", it went from closed to opened without any doubts. Hard to say what the option "Iconic sounds" does, if anything

On my old M140 putting Sport mode on opened the second exhaust valve. With the LCI, Iconic Sounds Off, there is no difference in car sound, just the point at which the car automatically changes gears. The valve only opens with the sounds on and in sports mode.

Here's a new video - i strapped the camera on the back.

Not sure, mine has a decent amount of pops and burbles though. Not the least bit disappointed.

Sorry for waking up an old thread but since it was on the exact same topic I had planned to post, felt stupid creating a new thread.

I have a 2024 M340i which I had delivered November last year. Since it wasn't the kind of weather here in Sweden that time of year when you get the chance to truly enjoy this kind of car in sports mode, I've been having lots of fun now during the summer season.

About the iconic sounds, one thing which I didn't realize until the other day is how iconic sounds isn't just an artificial gimmick pumping fake sounds through the speakers which I first thought but how it needs to be enabled to have the valve open to have that awesome and raw sound you expect when being in the sports mode.

Learned this after always having the iconic sounds option enabled and trying to switch it off to hear what the car actually sounds like. Was surprised how quiet the car became even in sports mode and a few moments later after switching between comfort and sports mode, I realised how the valve wouldn't open unless the iconic sounds option was enabled.

So with this new knowledge, I'll keep iconic sounds enabled but wish there was a way to have the raw sound you get with the valve open without having any fake sounds through the speakers.

I recently bought an odb2 adapter and the BimmerCode app. I was able to completely deactivate the fake sounds. With iconic sounds enabled now, the valve still opens but I no longer get the fake pops and engine noise
