G20/21/22/23 vs G26 wheel & tire sizes

Have we ever heard a logical explanation from BMW for the upsized tires on the G26 Gran Coupe? One possible reason, it seems to me, is that the G26 also is used for the i4 with its heavy battery. Otherwise, it seems odd to me that the size would be different.

The load rating requirement of the tire determines its size.

I think the heavier battery pack is the main reason as well. Bmw offers both long-wheel base 3 series (G28) and i3 (G28 BEV). ICE G28 shares the tyre setup with standard G20, while i3 has larger tires:
Front: 225/50 R18 Rear:245/45 R18
Front: 225/45 R19 Rear: 245/40 R19
