If you cannot source it from a reseller, you can try a nearby BMW dealership. Just find out if they'll give you the cluster or will require to install it themselves. If it's the latter, I suggest you keep trying resellers and retrofitting shops to source it for you. Also, price might be a bit higher from a BMW dealership. When I did the upgrade, BMW dealership here in South Africa quoted R21K (~US$1200) for the cluster, and I ended up getting it from a reseller for R10K (~US$570) brand new and unsealed.

Can you send the info on the reseller you used. All I’m finding is new ones for $1000 plus. Also does this work with a used digital cluster if it has lower miles than my car? I’ve seen tons of these on eBay for under $500 but I can’t find any concrete information on the virginizing process or how it even works for these. I have a 21 330i with ID7. I already upgraded the screen to the 10.25 with a used one from eBay and it’s been solid.

Requirements (Client)
1. OBD 2 ENET Cable
2. Windows Laptop
3. TeamViewer installed on laptop


Procedure
1. Plug in brand new cluster.
2. Put the car in diagnostic mode by quickly pressing start button 3 times when car is off.
3. Connect OBD 2 ENET cable to car and laptop.
4. Send EleBest Pte Ltd TeamViewer ID and password.
5. Sit in car and wait for EleBest Pte Ltd agent to configure connection to the car.
6. Wait for instructions from EleBest Pte Ltd agent during the process. Nothing complicated (Change driving mode, Press BC button, etc) to confirm functionality.
7. When complete I was advised to let the car sleep for 20 minutes before turning it on.


After letting the car sleep for 20 minutes I turned it on and all cluster functionality was available from BC button to widgets. I had assumed that some functionality would not be available with the smaller iDrive screen but that was not the case. Everything works and there are new options in the Displays menu option for configuring the instrument cluster.

I highly recommend EleBest Pte Ltd. They were patient with me and highly professional. Hands down the best retrofitting company.

I’m interested in doing this upgrade to Dogital cluster in my G20. I only have the small dash screen, and analog cluster. Am I still able to get this upgrade done? If so, can I purchase a used digital cluster and have it programmed?

Hi. Provided that you're car is fitted with an MGU HU High - D3 running iDrive 7 and the used cluster is properly virginized i.e VIN and mileage reset, then yes.

Hi Vuyo. I got the brand new cluster for R10K, and ENET cable was R400 from takealot, and remote coding was $190.

FYI, the upgrade was cheaper than purchasing a cluster from a BMW dealership, they had quoted R21K for the cluster.

Additional: In case you want to upgrade the iDrive screen as well, the 10.25" iDrive screen will set you back R40K from BMW. I got it from a stripped G20 for R5K and coded it using Bimmercode. Without coding, it will be blank after plugging it in.

No need, I think it's safe to say that the most if not all vehicles shipped to RSA have the module pre-installed. Unless you got a model that was produced during the chip shortage (COVID times).

There's a gentleman here who performed the upgrade on an vehicle running ID6, however functionality was limited. For full functionality, you'd need to upgrade the head-unit as well. A big task if you ask me, as you might need to replace the wire harness, replace the head-unit, etc. Should you choose go this route and aren't comfortable with doing it yourself, then I suggest you find a reputable retro-fitter near you and let them handle it.
