Grazed alloy and a blow out within 2 hrs
What a weekend.
Away camping with the family in the new forest. Squeezing into a tight car park space in Brockenhurst, I pulled out and back in and grazed my rear alloy. Gutted as I'm so careful and this is my first in over 10 years... Not to be out done, 2 hours later, unrelated, the front left tyre went bang. 3:50pm on Friday evening 200 miles from home... I rang around and managed to find a garage who had a tyre which I enquired on, but he was v busy and closing at 5:30pm. Long story short, I bunged him £30 to squeeze me in.. 5:20pm, he comes out to say he's got the tyre off, but noted I'd wrongly quoted 45 profile vs the 40 profile, and he didn't have a 40... Well miles from home, on holiday camping, I was proper up the creek... In the end, I had to have him fit it anyway, knowing it's gonna have to come straight off. £270 down on Friday, £450 down booked in tomorrow for 2 pirellis... Alloy repair still to sort... When it rains...

He noted a bulge where it blew. So I put it down to yet another pot hole bang, caused by the shocking state of our roads. I recall hitting one one a few weeks ago, clearly a delayed fuse...

Sorry to hear of your mishap. Alloys with very low profile tyres seem increasingly vulnerable to getting clobbered these days - and expensive to resolve.
I'd only had my car a few weeks when I trashed my front nearside wheel. I was stuck in a tailback on the M3; nothing was moving as the motorway had been closed just ahead from an accident. I made the mistake of turning the a/c off to save a bit of fuel whilst we were stopped. Eventually everything started moving again but we were diverted off the motorway onto unfamiliar roads. Idiotically I turned the a/c on again at just the wrong moment - the windscreen instantly misted up and I swiped the kerb on a particularly narrow curve at about 30mph. The whole diameter of the rim was shredded and I reckoned a refurb was going to be out of the question so I swallowed the £900-odd cost of full replacement. Of course three months later it got kerbed again on the most gentle of nudges - this time a very small scratch but enough for the lacquer to start coming away. Funnily, the alloys on my last car came "pre-worn" but it didn't really bother me at all - I am much more precious about these because they started off pristine and the damage is an annoying reminder of my lack of driving skill around kerbs. Expensive lessons... |

I haven’t used it anger yet, but I’ve offered it up and it sits inside the jacking points. Only downside is the tyre and bag with Jack etc.. takes up a fair bit of boot space.

So wicked wheels mobile repair has attended to the wheel.
Wheel off, breaks the seal to move the tyre back, Rub down. Polish, paint then lacquer. Pretty decent finish to be fair, hopefully it will stand the test of time. £85+vat so £102. Company was easy to deal with, and the guy who came on the day was a nice bloke and had it fixed in around an hour. Still annoyed, but hey life moves on. I did get a special message from the stealer this last week, offering a special manufacturer contribution for getting into a 24 plate... Limited offer for existing customers etc... Anyone else get this?

Mrs kerbed rear offside on the G21 yesterday, no remorse, no humility, just "......I think I bumped the tyre..."
Oh well together with the corrosion on the front nearside, my pocket money will be stretched.... |
