DME from different vehicle

Hey guys, sorry if this has already been covered, I’ve tried searching but can’t really find anything specific about this question. I have a 21 m340 and been considering getting it tuned. I know my DME would need to go off to FEMTO for an unlock, but I’ve got a line on some DMEs out of some 2020 vehicles that should all be pre 06/2020. I really like the idea of buying one of these, doing a bench unlock and having my tune on that instead of my factory DME. Only issue is the DMEs in question come out of either an A90 Supra or X3 M40i. Would there be issues running these in my car if they were flashed with the appropriate map for what I want to run?

Could you email Femto and see if they're still doing DME cloning? I'm not sure, but I saw a guy on YouTube saying they stopped doing it.

What is your goal?
Having a DME that you can unlock over and over again with a tool like the MHD bench unlocker?
Reach out to FEMto and ask him about the cloning service.
If your goal is warranty, don´t even try it as BMW can see this.

The goal would be to leave my factory DME alone and have the donor tuned. If the car required a service that would have it plugged in and potentially flagged, I could swap my factory DME in and avoid that. If BMW could tell my cars DME was cloned, it's a moot point.

I have thought of this but I read something that the odometer on the dash is going to be different than the locked ecu you swap in after. I don't think it will work

Yes BMW can see that you switched the DME back and forth, because of the mileage.
It´s saved in different ECUs and your car is getting flagged anyway.

Translation: My goal is to commit fraud.

Also, the mileage is stored in a few places and will report a mismatch.

Having it serviced is one thing, warranty work different. If you need an engine, transfer case, etc they are going to pull data logs. As others have mentioned, there are logs in multiple emus regarding performance data besides the DME. Your transmission and ABS also store data. That's how people get caught even running piggybacks.

Just to make something clear.
The logs and FASTA data are downloaded by ISTA everytime a car is connected.
This package will be uploaded to BMW and they can check the previous data if there´s request for warranty.

Good point. I forgot it was the default behavior as I have that toggled off on my copy of ISTA since I don't have an active subscription and it would fail anyway. It takes forever to close a session otherwise.

Legal and ethical are two different things my man. As soon as BMW honors warranties and doesn't do everything in their power to link a claim to a modification that has nothing to do with the issue, I'll care about the ethics involved in not having something I own permanently flagged in their system as a way for them to not handle a valid claim.

I am willing to bet that most of the stories you hear about BMW denying a warranty claim, are missing some important information.

Like, BMW denied my transmission repair because I tinted my windows. But they fail to mention the JB4, methanol injection, and drag radials.

BMW is not out to screw owners, but they are also not going to warranty items broken by owners. And there is a difference.

Also, you are not really screwing BMW as much as you are screwing the next owner. They buy a modded car thinking it was not modded. But I am sure you have a way to justify that as well.

Ah yes, the next owner for the car I have no intentions of selling. Nice hypothetical fallacy there.

Have a nice day and stop worrying about what other people do with their personal property so much.
