BMW Engine Oil Low (Changed 2-3K Ago)
Haven’t owned this car for too long. I just changed my oil at a BMW Dealership about 2-3K miles ago (1-2 Months ago). I decided to run the measurement in the car as BMW removed dipsticks for some reason and my levels are below half? I have no signs of Leakage nor do I see any white smoke coming out the back so i’m not sure how to react as of now. Car runs fine. Do I just top it off or is this concerning?

Does the measurement display the top quart or the entire volume? If it’s just the top quart you’re only a half quart low.

Make sure you are follow in the right method - car level, engine warmed up completely. The dealer may have just under-filled it. However, also, look for an oil leak around the screw-on cover for the filter. Cover has a o-ring that may not seal properly if they didn’t torque it to spec. It can leak quite a bit, quite quickly.
The electronic oil measurement capability is not very consistent ( it’s not just a simple level sensor in the pan) and it seems to get worse when it’s a quart or more low. If it says you are a 1/2 quart low, add the 1/2 quart and rerun the measurement. |

This topic has been discussed at length. A lot of folks on here, including me, have to occasionally add a quart or two between oil changes. It happens to me. Not every time, but it does. I just keep a bottle of oil in the trunk and top it off when needed. I’m not too overly concerned about it. If it gets worse I might have someone look at it.

I have to add a liter between oil changes in my normal driving with stop and go and short trips.
If I do a spirited mountain road weekend drive, it can consume 1/2 liter in a short period. But if I do a long 500 mile drive on the highway, the car consumes no oil at all. That's my experience. Just know certain driving conditions consume more oil than others.

Agreed with Z K and AM340iMiami.
Totally dependent on your driving conditions. Same goes for coolant.
