I’m convinced that (when switched off) the car doesn’t update the battery voltage reading in real time. Try driving it round the block and see if the reading changes after that.

I didn't drive it around the block, but I did start the car and run the engine for a few minutes, just sitting in the drive. I'll try actually driving it later, when I get a chance.

I only have a 5amp charger. And altho the charger showed the battery as fully charged- it was only 50%soc it still did add another 20-odd% to the bimmerlink indicated SOC over the following couple of days while it was at stage 8. (Interestingly I only decided to try my low power charger because I saw on another thread somewhere that it worked OK since 11/2023 update) Last edited by MisterG; 11-01-2024 at 01:24 PM.. |

Any tips on how I would go about obtaining a fully registered version of ISTA? I'm not even sure if I'd need ISTA+, ISTA-D or ISTA-P I know nothing about ISTA.

There’s a thread on the coding forum, post on it and you’ll get a PM with the details

If it’s an LCI forget it unless you have a BMW AOS account. A few of the ecus have secure coding enabled so you can’t just flash on your own via ISTA anymore. In 11/24 they have also enabled secure coding for some DME variants.
Secure Coding = the configuration files for each ECU is encrypted and requires a connection to the BMW back end servers to create for your car. The remote upgrades are actually on a reasonable pace these days. The July one was released just .q week after the ISTA version in Germany , then us in the UK got it 2 weeks later. |

This time around, I have not received the notification in the MyBMW app to download the latest remote update to my phone, and then transfer it to the car. Not that it's a big deal, a small HUD update is not something I'm at all concerned about. It's more.. will I get a notification for the next update then.. who knows. |

2021 M340i LCI and now on 07/2024.30. Had several updates since I got the car but can never really tell a huge difference between them. Doesnt help that the change logs in the update notes is always massively generic... "Upgrade brings existing functions up to the latest technical standard".

I finally had a chance to check my SoC (according to Bimmerlink) today, and after two more cold starts, to and from work today, the SoC is now stated at 58% which is not great really, considering the car was charging for 6 hours on Friday, and then sat over the weekend unused.

Is your journey to work short? How long is the car running for?
I had the battery warning on a previous update and just hooked up my ctek for a few days and it updated fine. Make sure you're also using the terminals in the boot that are specifically provided for charging the battery. |

I have only been charging from the terminals under the bonnet though. As far as I am aware, it's not recommended to charge the 12v battery from the terminals in the boot. and did not think that there were specific terminals to do so? If you have any pics of the terminals, I'd appreciate seeing them. Charging from the terminals under the bonnet did the trick for me with the last update to 11/2023.50 But this time around, never got the notification in the app to download the update anyway, so the SoC of the battery may not be that important, and far as doing any updates are concerned anyway. |

The terminals under the bonnet are the correct terminals, all as per the manual.
It would still prompt for the update regardless of SoC of the 12v battery. It will only prevent you from installing if you have a low SoC after its notified you the update is available. So I'd just sit tight and not worry about it. What setting have you been using on the C-TEK? I checked my battery and found it was an AGM so made sure that feature was enabled on my C-TEK and left it several days. We've had long periods of non-use of our vehicle as my wife has been on maternity leave. |

I'm fairly sure that, for MHT cars, the charging terminals in the engine compartment connect to a 12v to 48v up convertor to charge the 48V lithium battery. The 48v lithium battery then maintains adequate voltage in the 12V AGM battery.
I'm sure someone will be along soon to correct me if I'm wrong. |

I took the car for an hours run today, Ikea and back. Bimmerlink shows the 12v battery voltage as at 57%. I'll bung it on charge again, see what happens. Just out of curiosity, more than anything else. I also noticed I had a few logged errors in Bimmerlink, but other than the Telematic one, I can't see these causing an update "notification" in the app to not be sent out. The BDC error for "Cargo" is because I removed the boot floor with the plastic ribs that lift up and stop things moving around so easily. Last edited by The_Tok'Ra; 11-06-2024 at 08:33 AM.. |

My car was with the dealer due to some SW errors and they updated it to 11/2024.25. It states that there improvements in idle engine operation for diesels, but I haven't felt a difference yet
