Professional opinion

Hello!

I need professional opinion, and I would appreciate help.

I have a question regarding the paint job on my bumper. I visited a painter who repainted my bumper, but I noticed a color difference between the upper part of the body and the bumper. He told me that my color, 'mineral white,' is difficult to match perfectly and that the difference in tone is due to the fact that the body is made of metal, while the bumper is plastic, which reflects color differently depending on the viewing angle.

However, it's quite visible to the naked eye that the bumper looks lighter.

I'm wondering if this is really the case, or if it's possible to achieve a better color match?

Thank you in advance for advice and help.

Mineral white is a 3 stage paint. That's probably why he's having a hard time matching it. It requires another layer of paint to give it that look

"....and that the difference in tone is due to the fact that the body is made of metal, while the bumper is plastic,...."

My previous E39 had 2 tone jet black(non metalic) as it aged. When I replaced the rear bumper, a master painter explained to me that metal absorbs heat more than plastic, so the paint of the metal panel fades more than plastic panel. He then asked me if I wanted to match to the metal panel, or the previous bumper

From the photos in post#1, the bumper does seem to miss some of the glitter of the mid-coat.

It doesn't look too bad, but yes it's missing a small amount of the white / silver flake.

That being said, even cars coming off the truck from the factory have slight variances in paint color between the bumpers and metal body panels. Flat colors are easier to match like plain black and white, but I've noticed many metallic colors have this issue. It's a lot more obvious under certain lighting conditions. In your pics it doesn't look so obvious in the pic from behind, but it looks pretty obvious in the second pic. The shop is BMW certified? He's using the factory paint and not some third party version he's trying to match against it right?
