Here is a YouTube video of the M cluster on a 240i. Although it appears that the driver side screen is still the 240i dash with some modifications.

Here is a comment by the owner regarding the swap.

Quote:
It isn't (just) coding to swap to id8. For the infotainment you have to also flash the M2 firmware; the M theme/graphics/etc files do not exist.

The gauge cluster ("DKOMBI8" module) is encrypted and requires a BMW server (... insider) to generate configs for your car. The cluster also requires a man-in-the-middle hardware module - and wiring changes - to emulate CAN bus msgs only present on a real M car.

For the infotainment I'll post a tutorial soon, along with my triple zone ambient lighting, M2 fake engine noise, and more.

Hi,

Does anyone experiencing the HP/Torque gauge doesn’t work?

My car is 2023 G20 320i LCI. Before this upgrade my sports display was not working. Now I can see the HP/Torque gauge on cluster but it doesn’t work.

Beside of that everything works fine.

I installed the emulator but am now having an issue with the shift warning lights - they seem to go off at 3-4k rpm. Has anyone who also installed this had this problem? Does anyone else know if there’s a way to code out the shift lights?

I had the same issue. Those are actually “welcome lights” - There is a very small switch inside the emulator, push the switch to the left, then unplug the harness and re plug in. That fixes it

Unfortunately I already tried that and no dice. Did you just disconnect at this connection, or did you undo everything? I wonder if I have a faulty emulator. Thanks for the reply!

You flipped the switch inside the module, same as this picture correct? It should go to the left if you are holding it the same way as I took the picture. After that all I did was disconnect the part you are holding. You don’t have to re do any wiring. If that doesn’t fix it,the module is defective I’m guessing

On a side note. The colors of my wires are different then yours. Maybe because I have a M240i G42

That's exactly what I did. I have a 2023 G42 M240i xdrive, so maybe the year makes a difference in the wire color? I'll reach out to the guy who sold me the emulator to see about a replacement. I would imagine the coding was done in the car, so the emulator swap wouldn't require more coding. Did you get yours through groupbuyparts?

Yeah,I bought mine from him also. You can actually code the car now without an emulator. Someone did it a few pages back,I believe you will be missing a few functions tho . So you won’t have any issues if you code before you swap it out.

As far as the difference colors, that could be possible. As long as you aren’t throwing any faults when you scan. It’s wired correctly

Yeah I have a 23 m340i, and the guy informed me it wont work anymore after installing it, but the gauge cluster no shows psi and hp, and the home screen can show oil temp so it pretty much covers it.

I have had the M cluster installed for a few weeks now, has anyone noticed sprint mode is no longer available?

As an update to this, they sent me a replacement emulator and the switch worked - no more shift warnings on startup and at 3k RPM

[I'm stoked to find this thread with this much activity, haven't looked at it for a while; I come bearing VERY good news and stories!]

My friends and I just reverse-engineered the system. We made a long trip across Turkey to a car equipped with the module, created our own replica prototype on the fly, and succeeded in setting it up without errors.

We've also observed that after coding Sport Plus, the original module fails to transition from Sport Plus to any other mode unless you go from Sport Plus to Sport. They may have rectified this issue on newer modules, but I doubt it. Try it and see. Our iteration doesn't have this issue; we've fixed it.

Right now, we haven't figured out the shift lights yet, but we're working on it. That's the only missing piece at the moment.

Although we have extensive knowledge about CANBUS, electronics, and computer science, and run a shop/garage in the middle of Istanbul that specializes in electronics, electrics, software, and tuning of BMW cars, we are just two 20-year-old kids studying electronics and literature in college. We'll do our best to further comprehend the system, fix the shift lights, and go from there.

I've seen very high prices online. Our current estimation is much cheaper than that, and it would be a pleasure to supply kits at a sensible price, first to this forum and then maybe all around the world. We've also figured out the coding part, so that's taken care of.

If they've told you that they online code the KOMBI8 or flash it, they're lying (sellers in Turkey do so). The only flashed and coded part is the MGU, which doesn't involve any online coding, thankfully. The only risk in the process is the MGU losing its FSCs, which is a slim probability, but we've heard of it happening.

We are on track to hopefully significantly reduce the price of this sucker and provide it to the forum, giving back to the platform that I've benefited from a lot.

EDIT (pre-post edit, this post has been in the making for days)

I just saw that the M Cluster mod can be made with full coding, without the need for the module. The only way this mod can be fully done without the module is by flashing/coding DKOMBI8, which is impossible without NCD 2.0 capabilities.

There are two ways to then have NCD 2.0 capabilities: either use a Chinese NCD 2.0 panel, which costs anywhere from 40-75 USD, or get raw AOS access and make a purchase. Our estimation, even with a hefty profit margin, is still much lower than 40 USD. Also, removing this mod will require another NCD 2.0 coding session, which means additional expenses.

It's been an adventure thoroughly understanding how this mod works, working and taking risks on a voluntary car, and producing something that has this much interest on it. Please give feedback; we want to understand the perspective and demand for this modification, and start producing these with community feedback, so we can then start providing back to the community so everyone can have this mod with a very low cost compared to other solutions.

Here are videos of us poking around:

https://streamable.com/mg29cb
https://streamable.com/y6wlir

TL;DR: We've homemade the module from scratch, rectified the Sport Plus issue, comprehended most of the things about it, and are working on the sport displays part. We're trying to compete with the module-less application method to be the cheapest option on the table for the sake of satisfying the community's demand.

Not possible without an extra piece of hardware that can be bought and installed. There is no info on where and how much this is.

Hey mate I have an ID7 and installed the emulator which I assume from the same company
I have a minor annoying issue
My BC widget on the right hand side ( since I am from Australia) doesn't stay on when I start th car in morning it's blank and I have press again to select what's I want
I am positive wiring was ok, I recharged the battery, reset the car nothing worked
Actually the seller also coded twice just in case

Any idea what's causing the issue? I have no faults or anything just this annoying issue
Appreciate your help
