3 Series software update

Hi All

I recently picked up approved used 2021 G21 from the dealership. I have been exploring all the different things it offers as it’s my first BMW.

One thing i noticed is that latest software version is 03/2021.46. I did some research and it seems this might be an outdated version. However, neither the remote software upgrade nor the iDrive in the car is recognising any updates. It says no software update available.

I’m based in UK.

Is this the latest software version?

Thanks

I purchased a new 840i coupe manufactured in November 2021 with the software 11/2021.28, like you I was convinced that I wasn't getting any Remote Software Updates and the MyBMW App and car saying no update available. Whilst car was at dealers for 1st brake fluid change I requested they checked software. Car now updated to 11/2024.25. Can't say I have noticed any difference in the car.

You might try a CTek or similar battery charger, get your 12V up to 100%, restart iDrive, and see if it recognizes a new update.

I may try that myself as I’m still on 11/2023.

One of my updates got 'stuck' - it downloaded to my phone but wouldn't download to the car. When the next one came through it corrected itself, so it all seems to be a bit glitchy. As someone else said, take it to a BMW dealer and get them to do an update. That might clear the glitch.

I don't think there are any process improvements from your year on - in fact they take away certain menu options. After I did one of the updates, before tuning my car, I permanently lost the ability to use the remote start feature in the mybmw app. There is no direct user benefit to any of the OTA updates in the last 3 years, and if you are interested in coding you actually lose some code able features (auto start/stop delete and ASS). My advice would be to turn it off entirely so it never bugs you again. . . It's more problems than its worth for many of us.

You're not missing out on anything major or record breaking. Turn off automatic update and forget about it. Just enjoy driving your car!

Some people have 07/2024 (see https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2129831 for the UK thread discussing this) but some of us are at 11/2023.50 so I would expect there to be an update to either of these for your car.
