5AS (Driving Assistant) to 5AU (Driving Assistant Professional)?

Hi,
I have a nice offer for a soon to be made M340i G21 with "just"
- 5AS Driving Assistant
- 5DN Parking assistant Plus
- 6U3 Live Cockpit Professional
...

But without 5AU Driving Assistant Professional which I'm after badly.

I reached out to local dealer and asked if they could retrofit it. They answered they need VIN in order to check in My BMW Services and Store. I don't think I'll get the VIN so I may not get reliable answer from them.

Is 5AS hardware wise the same as 5AU?

If not, are dealers generally able to change the necessary components in order to enable the feature fully, although it was not configured from the factory? I do understand it may be more expensive than 5AU surcharge over 5AS in the configurator - still it's pretty important for me to know the options and I'd hope it would reuse a lot of 5AS components.

Many thanks for any information, if anybody knows anything about it

I also have 5AS, 5DN and 6U3. Do you know what 5AU gives on top of those options?

Thank you for your comprehensive reply. Mine does not list 5AT nor 5AU, but some of those features seem to be fitted. For example I have Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go Function,
Perhaps some of them are year specific.
I am after coding the view in the main display that shows vehicles around me rather than the skeleton map, but I only have Bimmercode and understand that can be done in expert mode.
I shall follow this thread with interest.

Hardware is different in many ways (radar, assistants camera, windshield, steering wheel and more).

Forget about that dealer can retrofit it.

Not possible at all in an official way.

Doable by a 3rd party.

You can see the thread where there was a DIY retrofit here: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2107397

This absolutely fits the answer I managed to get in the end. They said it would mean rebuilding half of the car, the price would be horrendous, not worth it. They suggested to configure a new car :-)

Configure a new car. Driver Assistance Pro works great. The lane departure is superior also. Dealers no nothing about these features and buyer always order the cheaper options thinking the consumer won't know the difference.

Configure a new car then order the Modulator from Aliexpress. It bypasses the car telling you to touch the wheel every 5s and Turns it into autopilot on most roads. I’ve driven 2 hours on the interstate and never had to touch the wheel. Just tap the turn signal to change lanes. Takes all the stress off driving but NOT AN EXCUSE TO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD!

My new G26 has Driving Assistant Pro. I’m just learning all that it can do.

I am envious that you can order a G21. Although I like my GC, I would love to have another 3 series wagon. Alas, BMW wagons are no longer available in the USA (other than the M5 Touring).

Best wishes for your shopping.
