BMW G20 - possible to have more than 2 music usb drives show in idrive?
I have a lot of music, vast majority in flac/320, I'd love to have more of it in my car.
I've hit issues with the size of microsd cards and number of files on the drive where it will show say an album that I know has say 11 tracks but the idrive only has only two tracks showing. That led me to this forum where I've seen some others commenting and trying different things I bought a usb reader that has a microsd and sd card ( Integral Dual Slot UHS-II SD & UHS microSD USB C 3.2 Gen-1 Memory Card Reader Adapter) hoping I can put a microsd card and a sd card in to it and get it to pick up two drives off the centre console usbc port, no such luck So i guess my question is, does anyone know if in anyway its feasible to have 3 (or more) drives show up in the idrive using the front (cup holder) usb, or the usbc in the armrest? EDIT: If you cant plug in three different physical storage cards (of any type) can you possibly create more than 3 drives that will show up, by creating more partitions on a bigger microsd card/sd card? Thanks! Last edited by Cru54d3r; 12-19-2024 at 09:03 PM.. |

I thought maybe it's your card reader that only has one I/F (I have card reader that has a common I/F to both micro-SD and SD slots) so I did a test with USB hubs, that on the PC connects to all memory sticks I connect.
Sadly in the car (2021 model iDrive7) only one of the memory sticks connects (one at a time and needs a physical reconnect to access the other). That is, one active in the USB-A port and one in the USB-C port. Those can be chosen with the steering wheel button (If you have a newer car (LCI) I think your USB-C doesn't support data traffic, from factory.) I suppose the solution to get 3 data-ports would be a modification of the USB-C port as BMW-ALPINA describes here: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...02&postcount=1 Then you might also run into the storage limit in the car that buffers the tag and file information from the memories. My user manual says 16000 per memory and 40000 in total. |

my car does allow data from both the cup holder usba and the centre console usbc, was just being greedy and hoping there were ways to max it out further, but running two 512gb microsd cards and around 32k tracks so probably close to the limits already |
