I know this doesn't help in the near term but once you are all fixed up, my advice would be to leave the shenanigans to the folks on YouTube. |

Mistake made and lesson learned (hopefully). I think being without my car for 2+ weeks is enough punishment lol.
Should be getting her back this week. Hopefully everything feels normal and it’s not one of those “car will never ride the same” situations.. |

My recommendation is to stop doing any of this type of action on public roads. Stick to a rented skid pad or the track where you would use a dedicated track insurance should damage occur.

Just got my car back and it feels great. They wiped my mission tune when they performed the engine recall so stock feels different but other than that, car is riding great so far (knock on wood).
SA said if anything feels off or I hear any noises, they will take care of it. The car actually feels firmer than before, since it has a bunch of new parts on it. Thanks for the moral support everyone! |

Guys, revisiting this thread because I’m still having issues.
After I got the car back I was hearing some ticking noise in the steering wheel at a stop or very low speeds. It sounds like someone tapping their finger on a wood table when I turn the wheel fully left or right. I brought the car back and they replaced the 2 front strut mounts, and it’s still making the noise. The car has been there for weeks if not months because the dealership can’t seem to figure out what the noise is from. I had a private shop look at it and they said definitely is the front strut mounts (even tho they are brand new) and maybe they weren’t greased or lubricated properly before the dealer installed them. The car is now back at bmw and 3 weeks later they’re trying to say it could be my lowering springs. I don’t see this being possible but he was asking if we can swap my stock springs to try and eliminate things. I’m about fed up with this place and am debating picking up the car today and getting it looked at by a more well known car shop that works on modded bmws. Does anyone have any thoughts on what this noise could be? Also when the car is on the lift, the noise is gone obviously because no load. I’m just surprised a bmw dealership can’t figure it out. |

* Crashes car, causing significant damage to suspension components
* Proceeds to call everyone else incompetent Is what it is man. You may just have to deal with that sound, sometimes you can replace parts all you want but after incidents like this they sometimes leave a mark |

Yeah I mean at the end of the day, I’m mad at myself for the initial incident lol. They are trying and looking into what it could be, and even suggested it could be my H&R spring which I highly doubt. The frustration was more lack of communication and having an appointment on 12/27, yet the car sits there untouched for 3 weeks before they look at anything, after it was brought back for not being fixed correctly the first 2 times.
I told him if they can’t figure it out by Monday, I’ll take my chances and maybe have a local shop look at it. Wish I still had the video of the sound so someone here could take a stab at what it could be. I’ll post one if it’s unfixed and I get the car back next week. I can probably live with the noise, Just hope it’s not a dangerous situation to be driving on. |

RE: springs. It’s a good idea to keep an open mind to trial and error unless you knew for sure the cause of the noise; but then your car won’t be in the shop. You can’t be judge, juror and executioner all at the same time. Last edited by zazzau; 01-15-2025 at 08:08 PM.. |

I do agree that the "appointments" for service at the dealership are BS.
They are lying to you about not having loaners though, that is what they told me until I made a big enough stink about being without transportation. I had an appointment for a clunk diagnoses, brought it in on Wednesday and they said they might not even be able to look at it until the next week. Well why do I have an appointment then? |

Also, it's not the brightest idea to post on a forum your intent to defraud your insurance company. |

Yeah well after the other day when I told the dealership I want the car back fixed or not by Monday, they just yesterday told me they ordered new tension struts for the car. Magic isnt it? Lol
They think it’s a part they replaced that is failing, but can’t be 100% just yet that’ll fix it. Hoping this is it!! |

Today, I finally got it back. Ended up being the subframe which was scuffed and where the strut sat in the hole became oblong, causing the steering wheel tapping noise under load.
Ride home felt weird, cause I haven’t driven it in over a month, and haven’t driven it fully fixed since September 2024. Was getting used to the 2025 430i loaner I was in (pretty nice for daily commuting btw). Can honestly say it feels much better now. Tighter, more response from the steering and suspension, no noise. Although I got impatient and frustrated at times, kudos to the dealer for finally figuring it out and not just telling me “we give up”. I’ll monitor as I continue driving, knock on wood, but super happy to have the whip back at home. |
