Attempt to fix issue with Head Unit > Cluster black
Hallo All,
I upgraded my BMW G20 from 8.8 to 10.25 display according to this post: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2013844 I did the coding with Bimmercode. Everything worked well, except when the car went into deep sleep, the display stayed black, unless I did a reboot of the head unit (30 sec on/off button). Today I attempted to fix this by restoring all control units by re-writing the back-up files. After flashing the instrument cluster, it stayed black and did not display anymore anything. I also can't connect anymore to the instrument cluster with Bimmercode (it's not in the list). Can annyone support here? I was reading online and understood I could possibliy solve this by using Esys. Is that correct? |

Today I installed the full version of E-Sys, I'm now waiting for the cable I ordered.
How I understand the following steps from reading forum posts: - I need to read ECU - Find KOMBI - Right click > Detect CAF If the CAFD is missing, E-Sys will suggest a CAFD file. - Then code Is this correct? Can anyone help me out here? Thanks! |

Way above my head ! But I did run your question through AI and it came up with the below. Maybe there is something in there that will help you if nobody else chimes in. Sorry I couldnβt help more !
STEP-BY-STEP (DKOMBI recovery) 1. Connect to the car
2. Read ECU list (SVT)
π This loads the full ECU tree 3. Check for DKOMBI Look for:
π If DKOMBI IS PRESENT This is the best-case scenario. 4A. Detect CAFD (MOST IMPORTANT STEP)
If it shows NO CAFD (or red/missing):
5A. Code the module After CAFD appears:
β³ Wait 1β2 minutes π Your cluster should reboot and come back π If DKOMBI IS PRESENT but HAS CAFD Still try:
Sometimes itβs just corrupted coding, not missing CAFD. π¨ If DKOMBI DOES NOT SHOW UP This is your situation most likely. 4B. Try detecting via SVT Actual
π See if DKOMBI appears here If it appears here but NOT in coding: You can:
β If DKOMBI is completely missing everywhere Now we escalate. π₯ LAST RESORT (still E-Sys) TAL Processing (reflash attempt) This is more advanced but still doable. 1. Go to:
2. Load:
3. Calculate TAL
4. In TAL options: Select:
5. Target ONLY DKOMBI VERY IMPORTANT:
6. Execute TAL
β³ This will attempt to reflash the cluster firmware β οΈ If TAL fails or DKOMBI not listed At this point: π You need ISTA+ ISTA can:
π Absolute worst case If:
π The cluster is:
β‘οΈ Replacement + programming required |
