Hi,
i have read through almost every page to find a preferably easy solution and could not find it. I retrofitted the electric tailgate function with original parts and bought bimmerutility to VO Code it. After adding the the right FA i VO coded the HKFM and everything worked fine. I then thought i also need to vo code the KOMBI and HEADUnit module to unlock some iDrive Options for the tailgate (which it doesnt have) and since then, the displayed car in the KOMBI and HEADUNIT has a different color. I tried VO Coding the BDC and KOMBI and HEADUNIT numerous times but it did not work. How do i get the right color back? I use ISTA D and bimmerutility. Additionally i suffer another problem which i have for a longer period. After trying the m and alpina cluster but reverting back immediatelty because it it not working properly in my PHEV, i do not see a change in the cluster when switching from comfort to eco mode. Sport Mode was also missing but i managed to code it back, dont know how. |

HU_MGU -> VEHICLE_COLOUR Here is how to change the trim line model (sport, regular, other) : HU_MGU -> TRIM_LINE And for the driving mode view, verify you have selected this option in the iDrive : |

Is it normal that BU overwrites the coding changes done previously with Bimmercode when you apply any new changes with BU?
I thought they'd access the same data with the currently active coding, no matter where it was done. Is there a way to avoid this or am I doing something wrong? |

Because I am missing the Eco Driving Mode in the instrument cluster. When I switch to eco mode nothing changes, same colors and same design like the standard comfort mode. When switched to sport, the instrument cluster switches to red and the right gauge changes from percentage to rpm. |

For VO Coding you select the ECU itself, not the CAFD File. VO = Vehicle Order VO Code = Coding of all FDL's (100% of the ECU) to predetermined settings based on the Vehicle Order. Connect => Read FA (VO) => Activate FA (VO) => Read (ECU) => Right-Click on ECU (the ECU itself not the underlying CAFD) => Select CODE. FDL = Function Data Line FDL Code = Coding of individual FDL's in an ECU, overriding the VO Coding. Connect => Read FA (VO) => Activate FA (VO) => Read (ECU) => Right-Click on the ECU CAFD and select Read Coding Data => Expand the CAFD Folder by clicking + symbol => Right-Click on the CAFD file and select Edit <SvtCompareView.edit.fd.name> => Edit CAFD as desired => Click the Blue Floppy Disc Icon to Save CAFD => Click the green back arrow icon => Right-Click on the CAFD file => Select FDL CODE. That said, BimmerUtility introduced a thing called "smart coding", which is FA coding without removing custom coding.

As for the Driving Modes, vo coding HU_MGU and BDC_BODY2 (it is only showing this one) did not help. I am starting to think that there is no other “style” for the instrument cluster in eco mode. I even reset the HEADUNIT via ISTA today and it did not help. Can anyone confirm that there are no changes in the BMW Live Cockpit Pro on a PHEV G30 when switching from comfort to eco mode? Or are there other options which I could try? EDIT: While I am there. How do I change the wheels of the car in the head unit? Do you need to change the VO and VO Code the HEADUNIT oder is there a simple coding option like the one for the color? Last edited by Mandastar; 03-24-2026 at 03:08 PM.. |

As far as I know, I can only right click on the HEADUNIT and click VO Code and that did not help.
According to some pictures I found online it is possible that there is no other style on the PHEV models, see the attached picture. I may only be missing the blue highlights left and right. I do see them but only in EV mode. I will play with the trim options but for now I am happy that all functions are working. |

I already went through ISTA beforehand and got to the same point where I needed to diagnose by swapping the FLM. Hadn't had the chance to do that since was a bit busy and wasn't a priority. I did the same steps again more recently but still the same just couldn't be bothered. There was also no service function for relearning under Body, Lightning for the G20. So I pretty much gave up. But a few weeks later today I noticed there was no error any more and my adaptive seemed to work. All I remember was
I then went to Bimmerlink and was finally able to clear the errors, they don't come up instantly anymore so fingers crossed it stays that way. And my aftermarket RGB DRLs still work. |

Hopefully, this solved your problem. It reminds me of a problem I had with my FZD2 ECU, which wasn't correctly detecting when the doors were open. Basically, my instrument cluster was constantly showing that my doors and tailgate were open, even though they weren't. In the end, simply holding down the radio power button for 60 seconds, like you did, fixed the problem! ![]() |

Can you explain how you VO-coded your BDC? It's because the BDC contains several different CAFDs (Controlled Driving Devices). You need to make sure you VO-coded the correct one. If you're unsure, select them one by one and then VO-code them. If you use BimmerUtility, you can send me your BUP file (a complete backup of your CAFDs) so I can take a look at it... |

These are the cheat code files. Download the .xml file(s) and put in BimmerUtility Cheat code folder (e.g. C:/BimmerUtility/CheatCodes)

I just learned about BU the other day, going to use it to attempt to code out my upper and lower airflaps. Too flagged to use the extended warranty BMW provided
