If you add the SKUS of all the parts that are removed, the cost savings from there wouldn't even come close to the cost of SOC and the screens.

I've been working in HW&SW dev Project Management for 15 years.

ID7

ID8
It's not just the parts themselves, that's what you don't get. It's the cost in the manufacturing process. You simplify what would have been 5 or 6 processes to 1 and you save money. Look at Tesla...you think it's more expensive to have that one giant screen vs having a proper interior with all the regular parts separate? You have to be kidding me. I digress though, you obviously can't see past a processor and screen.

It’s ok, the best part is idrive 8, as I had the opportunity to use it a few hours earlier, as I test drove iX.
It’s very solid improvement, and going from idrive 8 to idrive 7 in my 21’ M340i really felt like quiet a downgrade.

If I had an order on G20 in place, I’d cancel it and wait for the new one, just for idrive 8.
I've heard one more ... change the whole car just for an iDrive ... I'll never do this mistake !

Not to mention a very big disadvantage of the new LCI: you have to press 4/5 times on the touch screen until you change the temperature - for the pre LCI model it's just a push of a button, I prefer the buttons and the iDrive 7 interface a thousand times over the new one without buttons ! Don't get me wrong, I know it's wow the new iDrive 8 and much smarter, but implementing it and giving up buttons makes it a disaster.

Exactly. Better integrated and not so tacked on looking, while also retaining all the key physical buttons.

It doesn't, but even if you think it did, the software that's running in that screen is so much worst that it's not even comparable.

Yes I can't see past processor and screen, because cost saving of 5 or 6 manufacturing processes to one to one doesn't even come close to the cost of one 15" one 12" high resolution, bright screens with way more advanced SOCs.

On top of that, the software is way more advanced as well.

Why are you so defensive of this new effing screen?? You like it, EVERYONE gets it. You talk about processing power blah blah blah...what is it processing so much better than ID7?? That system was never laggy for me and looks great. What, so the new screen is higher definition? Big deal, it looks like sh!t (in my opinion). It's a car interior, not a sim setup.

Show me the part and process cost comparison and then we can talk. Otherwise you're talking out of your @ss.

Disagree. Screens can plugged into any model buttons require actual design rather than slapping on a screen al la Tesla.

Nothing screams cheap shit moneysaver like a screen especially when it's not lit. BFD.

I know the screens themselves are not cheap. Doesn't change how shitty it looks.

Seeing from your many comments , it appears you are delusional.
Whether or not the software in the screen is better or not is not even debated.
It's the presentation and the caddy is absolutely better integrated , as well as the KIA interior.

The Caddy design does look much better than the BMW.
I can't believe I said that. It's a shame a better execution wasn't achieved.

Agree with what everyone is saying (well other than Cortexiphan who appears to be the lead designer of the new dash). Cadillac screen looks way better. Even the Kia looks better. I’m realizing a big reason for it is because for whatever reason BMW chose to leave the screen rectangular instead of curving the corners like the others did. Shocking considering how they incorporate the Hoffmeister Kink so many places. Also not integrated into the dash as well as the others. Complete disappointment from an implementation standpoint. This is proof that most people here aren’t against the long screen, they’re against the piss poor execution of it.

I have started using voice commands to change AC settings in my G20 (pre-lci) and it is pretty well implemented. Not as convenient as using buttons but still an alternative to using the touchscreen in iD8 in the LCI. I have not figured out how to change the vent temperature using voice commands, can someone tell me if this is possible?

Was hoping to upgrade our 330i to a 330e but it'll give me anxiety to drive without the buttons and the lack of traditional gear selector.
100% agreed!! Well said!!! The new LCI needs to be recalled by BMW.. Title it as a campaign.. 'We make a big mistake" Buy the currant version while you can.. Your getting a great 3 series with no regrets!!

That's great to see that at least Alpina has decided to keep the traditional gear shifter.Too bad they also couldn't change the gauges to a sporty circular design.I don't know which design i dislike more, the ugly slapped on the dash screen or the terribly designed angular gauges.

It's not surprising that Alpina is keeping the gear - I believe the M3 will be keeping it too!

As for the gauges that's something that can be addressed through coding.

It is surprising because both petrol and diesel Alpinas share the same regular gear selector of the normal M340i and M340d, not the M version with different layout.

Also, it is not surprising because the people at Alpina are still normal.
