When the new 4, m3, etc are finally unveiled, I think the vertical grills will end up looking perfectly fine and integrated into the overall design language. They're going to be larger and more prominent than we're accustomed to, but I think they will look good in the end.

BMW will still find a way to butcher it, especially since the car is still in concept form that wouldn't likely comply with safety standards. My expectations of BMW's design team just get ever increasingly lower as more and more of the new M3/4-Series gets leaked/revealed.

There are lots of pissed off people, not liking this new kidney grill design trend.

I can't wait for these cars to be revealed already so we can move past the grill issue and get to better, more interesting conversation.

I read an interview with BMW's head designer in Car Magazine. When discussing the new 4 series grill he said:
"With the kidney, we made a big difference, which is on one hand very BMW, but different to all our other cars. The first kidneys were always vertical -- it happened with the 328 or even more recently the E28 5-series. For this core product, the 4-series, we wanted to make something that doesn't feel like just a coupe for those who can't afford an 8-series." My translation: If you want taste, pay $130K for an 8 series; if you don't have taste, or can't afford BMW's version of taste, then pay $70K for a butt ugly coupe. If that is the direction that BMW is going...my 2018 5 series will be my last BMW. |

Seriously when it is properly unveiled I think people are going to love this new look? A strong powerful presence backed up with serious athleticism with the M440i. With any new BMW the media are in most cases leading the discussion about the other attributes rather than bold and disicive aesthetics. The new 4 will have aesthetics in many of its opening chapters. They might be negative or they might actually resolve to accommodate - finally acceptance. And then we will have the first in a series of M4 models which will really bring it higher.

I don't have photos but I believe the new m3 is driving around Hermosa Beach CA. There must be a BMW tester who lives in the area, I alway see him driving new camo'd BMW's.

I believe it. Port Hueneme isn't far and they have a big BMW R&D location there. I've seen lots of camo'd BMW's throughout the years in SoCal.

That's going to be an ugly beaver. The profile looks good though. Keeping the camo on it would be the best way to be scene in one.

Yes it is a rendering. But Look closer and you can see that it is very much closer to the production model, especially the front which incorporates actual production elements such as the higher bonnet line with separate nose cone and it has an actual B-Pillar.
It's around 90-95% of what you are going to get.
