Chickenwire and a hot glue gun.

Works like a charm.

I was thinking of the rubberized material with perforations and some type of 3M velcro.

That looks like a great DIY, although it looks like 2 extra bolts are added, so maybe the DIYer had to drill the subframe?

Looks like Mishimoto has one for the G80.
Wonder if it will fit for the G20.

Any idea if the mounting points are the same between the G80 and the G20?

Bumping an old thread here but this is an actual issue, for the guy trying to call people hypochondriacs.

My M340i at some point while driving got a big hole put into the engine oil cooler and dropped all the oil out of the car overnight. It happened at night and I didn't hit anything noteworthy, no indicators in-dash and I didn't even realize it happened until the following day when I went out to my car with daylight and saw a pool of oil under it along with the trail of oil from when I had driven in and parked the previous night.

This is honestly a pretty bad design flaw. I was strongly considering buying out my lease in a couple months but knowing this now, I will only do so if I can find a way to stop this from happening going forward. It's a $1500 replacement at the dealership if you don't go through insurance and that does not guarantee that the engine will still be in good shape after the fact. They obviously cannot test the engine without replacing the part first, and it pretty much requires you to go through insurance because if you replace the part on your own dime and find out after that your engine is damaged, insurance would not cover it since the damaged part was already replaced by you.

I did not start my engine at all once I saw the oil and the indicator on the dash of low oil pressure, so I feel pretty optimistic about my engine, but I shudder to think what might have happened if I was on a longer drive versus a 10 minute trip from my gym to my house.

This sucks! I agree that some folks on this thread can be defensive: I got some pushback earlier and was dismissed as exaggerating things after pointing out the risk to damage due to the positioning of the cooler.

While the probability of this happening might be low; it doesn’t matter until it happens.

Why are you hesitant on using insurance? I’m almost certain it won’t count against you because this was damage from a foreign object. I had my lower grille damaged recently: I hit a bird (or should I say, a bird hit me) and the replacement was covered by insurance without any resulting premium increase. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

I agree. It’s the same thought process I have with additional insurance premiums and high bodily injury & property damage…. You never need it, until the one day you do.

Late reply to this, but thanks for your input. I filed as a comprehensive claim, which was a low deductible, but my rates magically jumped a bit after. Still worth going the insurance route, just a little annoying.

Can you please advise which skid plate that is, and I assume it is for your M240, but will it fit an M340?

Has anyone had any success with the ZUNSPORT for the M340

https://www.zunsport.com/us/product/...roduct_id=6653

I saw one guy on YouTube say fitment should be fine as “all F’s & G’s are the same”

Still waiting to hear back from these guys

Zun Sport response was:

We would need to have an image of the oil cooler to be able to say if it definitely would fit. However, if you know that there are no differences for the oil cooler between 3-series models then yes

Zunsport

Can anyone here confirm that the Oil Cooler P/N across the “G” are identical?

From the pics I have seen they appear to be, but looking for concrete confirmation.
