This week German Cancelor Merkel announced the introduction of a substantial CO2 tax on cars with combustion engines, air travel and oil heatings. The climate movement in Europe grows rapidly, even here in my ultra-conservative country the green parties are celebrating suddenly landslide victories on and on. Big changes are coming. |

Unfortunate that these wagons don't make it to to the US. I'm in Europe now and there are so many. So much better than all the damn SUVs we have.

I've already seen quite a few of the new 3er wagons out in the wild with their zebra stripse(camo) coving the car's rear sections. Only a few have been M340i's though. It's quite hard to tell now that all models have dual exhausts pipes.
A BMW AG friend of mine just got to drive one of the M340i prototypes... he said it's AMAZING! Actually... he said it is THE machine!! Dackel

I really didn't want to switch from BMW to Mercedes for the E63 AMG Wagon or E Class Wagon. But that's realistically my only option for a new Wagon since BMW abandoned us.

What a beautiful, purposeful machine. And what a damn shame BMW doesn't realize a market for these cars still exists here in the US. They are the ones who brainwashed us all to "need" SUVs and at the same time put zero effort into selling or marketing the Touring. Meanwhile, I see smaller 5-door hatchbacks from other brands rolling around everywhere alongside the sea of compact SUVs and raised "off-road" wagons. A 3-series Touring could replace them all and do everything they do that much better. I think BMW is one of the only brands left in this country that doesn't offer some sort of vehicle with a hot hatch or wagon body style. Hell, even Porsche and Buick are making them now.

Why would it sound better than a sedan? What's different?

Europeans actually love SUVs as I understand. It's just that they are way more expensive to buy and to run over there.

I can only hope there are enough enthusiasts with money to buy the new ones, so us enthusiasts with less money can buy it years later. |

It's tough to gauge the true interest of wagons here in the States. As their popularity is exponentially growing based on the amount of social media posting by car enthusiasts, the bottom line still requires the "I would get one IF etc etc..." to actually speak with their wallets to give BMW hard facts to make decisions.
Seems the general "car guy" thing is to like wagons and sports cars, but ultimately the sports car will usually win when it involves a purchase. Interestingly enough, as the E9x and F3x forums start to slow down with the transition of the G2x, the E91 and F31 sub forums are growing and still have a strong and consistent following.

But yeah, totally agree. Wagons rock. I would buy an M340i wagon over a sedan, given a choice. |

RS6 Avant is supposedly coming stateside soon! I really wish BMW would bring the m340i in wagon form here, but the RS6 is a decent option.
