Any more info for a n00b?

I started noticing the dimming gauge cluster display recently. At first I thought it was just me, but then I watched it get really bright and then go really dim again. Is there any more info on which adapter people use? There's a ton for the G80 here:https://bimmercode.app/adapters/?series=g

I'll pick one of these up soon because the dim display isn't as bothersome as the oscillating dim, bright, dim, bright. It's like I'm hallucinating.

I prefer ethernet because it's faster and more stable. I went with this one.

Got my enet cable and usb3 adapter today. Works perfectly ok my G80! I can use the thumb wheel to adjust brightness to my liking finally. I'll check it out tomorrow in the sunlight to confirm all is good. Thank you!

Oh, I should also note that the panel is basically full bright during the day without nighttime headlights on. I drove around today and got confused that I couldn't adjust the brightness with the adjuster wheel until it got dark enough and the headlights came on. Then back to all is good, and works just like the vid I posted.

Yes mine was dimming during the day because of the tint.

With the above coding it's now bright during the day, dimmed down at night and controllable with the scroll wheel.

Thank you! I am going crazy and my tint is 35% that and with the shorter days now it goes to the darkest setting by 2pm. Now I can cancel my service visit.

That's what was happening to me. I have 30% tint and even during the bright days it was still going super dim. Total cost out of pocket for me was $45ish for bimmercode and $36 for these cables:

So to confirm, this coding fix makes the instrument panel full brightness always during the day and then at night you can adjust the brightness manually with the thumbwheel? does the thumbwheel still control both the instrument panel, control panel and the button lighting?

Yeah, it's basically full brightness, although it looks slightly dimmer during the daylight time than "full brightness" does at night. I think it's just an illusion with bright backlighting. But yes, stays bright during the day (no auto-brightness) and then at night the thumbwheel controls the brightness of the instrument cluster. I hadn't noticed it changing the control panel brightness at all, since that is a separate control in the brightness adjustment area. I can take a picture later if that'd help.

Can anyone explain to me what is the reason for the 2nd code line “ DIM_TAG_NACHT_LICHT_EIN_ENABLE”

I did all 3 code lines, but I was not able to understand why do we have to code this one too (DIM_TAG_NACHT_LICHT_EIN_ENABLE)

I tried it with active and not active, and did not notice a difference. Any thoughts?

I understand but coming into this thread and posting your question is called "hijacking" and it's off topic and rude.

It can be done in Bimmercode expert mode...

Headunit
3005 APIX_CID_UND_ZIN
DIM_CURVE_X2
change values to 0x00, 0x00 (from 0x1F, 0xC0)

Instrument cluster
3000 Anzeige_Konfiguration
DIM_TAG_NACHT_LICHT_EIN_ENABLE
change value to aktiv

Instrument cluster
3005 FuBi_Parameter
DIM_DTN
change value to 0x7F (from 0x3F)

After programming the codes above, go to Car/Settings/Displays/Control display and change the “Brightness at night” to it’s lowest value. Then use the standard I.P. scroll wheel to set a comfortable light level in darkness.
Any one can help me how I do this on a X3 2019 m40I thanks

I was wondering if these fix can improve the quality of image of the rear view cameras at low light situations at night. There is a light sensor located on the bottom left corner of the cluster, I tested the sensor pointing my iPhone's LED light to it, after a couple of seconds, you see that the IDRIVE gets MUCH brighter improving also the quality of the rear camera at night. I do have very dark tinted windows, which I believe is not helping me either.

Any thoughts and tips will be rewarded with a big THANKS!

Getting windows tinted tomorrow, 15% all around and front windshield. Coded this and seems to work. I know in parking garages it dims a lot, assume same situation with Tints....thanks OP.

Update this def works. In essence it makes during the day full bright and still gives control with the wheel next to the lights at night to adjust for night.

Basically turns day auto brightness feature off.

Did this for my 2021 M440i, worked but for some reason my auto high beam now doesn't work at night. I am going to revert back and see if it is having an issue with the auto high beams.
