Hopefully, any new battery technology can be retro-fit to recent PHEV and EV's.
BTW, as a long-time Beemer & Bimmer owner, I do understand how naive (stupid) that statement is...... |

I can see a possibility of being able to not only select your hybrid battery pack size when the car is new but be able to swap a diff size (or new tech) battery later in its life. Not sure BMW will go that route though.

I can see it being technically feasible, even if the capacity is increased. If voltage and amperage can remain at current levels, the increased capacity should extend range.

Thinking about it a bit more..........this is a current feature on the Zero EV motorcycles. You can buy a larger capacity battery to get more range.
