I use navigation a lot in my car, and I don’t like CarPlay because I can’t easily zoom the maps in and out.
With the BMW nav I can use the iDrive dial to zoom in when I get closer to a turn or want to find a street name, and then zoom back out to a bigger map view when I want to know the entire route. With CarPlay I have to use the touchscreen to change the map scale, and that is not easy to do reliably without looking at the screen if the car is bouncing along. I want to know more about the route than the next couple of turns because some routes can get very screwy. The GPS calculation is based on speed limits and distance. Sometimes a route is bad/slow/complicated because of excessive traffic lights or a school zone, and like to have a better idea of the big picture of the route. |

I've found more that it's the iPhone, not the car playing up.
Especially if you are near a known Wi-Fi network, you mr phone will try to connect to that instead of the bmw one of the dog al is strong enough as it's preferred. So, if you have signed up to one of those free wifi providers that has the same SSID Wherever you go, turn off "connect automatically " |

Bumping this to see if anyone else has a similar problem.
CarPlay connects automatically when I get in the car, no issues. If I stop the car and get out briefly - to convince store or coffee shop- it connects again once I’m back in the car but I can’t use the steering wheel controls to change songs. It does this every time without fail. It won’t display the song on the front dials screen either, but it’ll work fine on the larger HMI. 2020 330xi I thought maybe an update would fix it but I haven’t been able to load the latest update 🙃 |

Carplay has stopped working after the most recent BMW software update 3/2024.40. The error says the bluetooth is not compatible. This is definitely a BMW issue so I am sure a fix will not be released anytime soon.
Anyone else experiencing this?

CarPlay has been terrible across 3 different brands of rental cars recently…Jeep, Chevy and Cadillac. It was terrible in my Jeep, Honda, VW and now my bmw. My daughter didn’t believe me either until I switched to Android and all the problems went away. Long live Android auto

Ive had issues with CarPlay as we’ll, they all started when I connected to Spotify through BMW home instead of CarPlay. Sometimes it’ll randomly cutout and switch to Bluetooth. With the random connection issues, sometimes wheel buttons will stop working because of it. I haven’t gotten around to deleting Spotify account connected to BMW home, hopeing that will fix it.

Resetting iDrive fixed the issue with CarPlay. A completely unnecessary thing to do if there wasn’t a glitch. Nonetheless, it’s fixed.

Yes, same for me. I get this “Not possible to connect to this device. Bluetooth version no longer compatible” message. The only way I’ve been able to clear this error is to stop the car, get out, lock the doors, and get back in again. It’s irritating.

I've had 2 BMW's so far and carplay has always had issues.
1st BMW: 2015 435i, needed to connect phone with a usb cable. Still connection was spotty. Worked maybe 60-65% of the time. 2nd BMW: 2021 M340i, Wireless Apple car play. 40% of the time when i get in the car the phone does not connect. Display shows no active devices. Some times takes 5 minutes before it connects. Troubleshooting: Iphone is updated to latest software. Car has latest iDrive software. Reset head unit many times. Re-paired phone many times. Still have issues. |

Wireless carplay is horrible.
Audi had wired version before swap, worked fine. Idk why BMW insists on wireless and also hope that wired car play can be software patched in the future Both 23 m440 and 25 x7 (in addition to just ONE working USB data port which can be split into two via a cheap hub but 3 port hub is no longer supported) |
