My first 5 miles each morning are in total darkness (countryside with zero traffic) on an arrow-straight road on gently rolling terrain. Fresh asphalt this past summer and new reflectors installed every 200' early this month. If the moon's in hiding, it's a perfect headlamp test. I easily see reflectors about a mile out and fairly strong, even illumination for 500' or more. Here are 3 shots from early this morning. The area is dense with deer, which keeps my speed in check. The high beams pick up their eyes' reflections or their roadside movements with ample distance to brake (to a standstill, if necessary). Problem is when they cross the road at a full run from far afield. Tapped one at low speed with our Jeep a year ago that way. Last edited by luckylingy; 10-26-2022 at 10:03 AM.. |

My doors lock automatically at 5 or 10 mph. I haven't ridden in the back - are there not little nobs to push down to lock the car manually? Interesting little situation if not

There are but call me paranoid, I’m thinking of situations where maybe your child is in the back and needed to lock the door to prevent a stranger entering the car. It’s the times we live in I guess. Guess I’ll have to show them how to use the push down lock. Regardless, I just found it interesting there was no push button mechanism like most cars.

Do it! Kids are very receptive about these things and can surprisingly handle such instructions in an "adult way", proud to do something in dad's car autonomously and responsively, if needed.

You hit the nail on the head, BMW marketing got the better of everyone with that decision. Would have made a lot more sense if BMW had some delineation like audi does, S and RS. Instead they just tacked M on everything watering down the icon for anyone who cares. Silly thing to do, but I think that’s part of why people say BMW keeps shooting itself in it’s own foot. They’ve made strange decisions of late. Would have been so much better if they didn’t make it exactly the same, even a slight delineation between the actual M cars and M-lite would have preserved the entire ecology of the cars and made the M-lite cars more attractive to me. Who wants to purposefully pay to be a poseur? It’s weird, and I’m not kicking M-lite cars. They are very good cars. It’s just you are stuck with that now. If you want a 340i, a nice i6 3 series… you can’t get one without that badging and that’s silly. Every time an M3 and an m340i show up at the same spot, this is what everyone is thinking, and it’s no one’s fault but BMW marketing. Unforced error on BMW’s part cause the 340i is already a good car and doesn’t really need upbadging imo. Or, maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about and no one would buy a 340i without that M on it, besides me. |

I prefer my back end, non M, 340i. I love the tail lights in the LCI and I prefer cylinder exhaust, not the body form tetragonal shape. |

I learned a lot about what the car can do from this dude...hilarious really. Looks like he fully enjoys the G80! I hope you guys enjoy the video as much as I did.

I discovered that my M3CX is absolutely stunning in the snow. Away from a stop, it lets the rears spin for just a moment and then hooks up as best it can which is more than enough.
Deliberately provoked, it will let you kick out the back end just a bit and maintain a shallow slip angle without intervening. I am quite concerned about a big chink of ice landing in front of me and have decided to invest in the Turner skid plate. Ground clearance and the vulnerability of the oil cooler seem to be the primary limitations. Otherwise, bring it on. |

From reading the 2023 owner's manual, yes. The central button is one of the ones deleted with iDrive 8. However from some listings I'm seeing, it looks like it's actually on both front doors, not just the driver side.
