I too was shocked when I first saw the kidneys, but they are doing a modern retro of the 1970's grills

I think I prefer the older grilles but I'll reserve judgement for the official reveal. It doesn't bother me enough not to buy one. |

remember when people used to sit on the copy machine and scan their ass.... that’s the shape of this grille.

Everything seems to be conservative BMW interior, the cockpit looks nice. Would like to see the navigation screen 🖥 get even bigger.
But these atrocious kiddie grills are ridiculous, what the hell is the point of having them this gargantuan size 🤓 and then to have the plastic vent being closed to NOT allow air 🌬 into cool 🧊 the combustion engine down, that was the whole point of the kidney grills in the first place 🤯. I still think that closing the grills is the biggest mistake and a potential failure while driving, I would instantly disable that asinine feature! |

They have made it look even worse with the active grille flaps at the top so just looks like a large lump of black plastic. Same as the 3er grilles there must be a more elegant way of having bigger grilles, active flaps and not looking hideous.

It looks as if the designers were going after Alfa Romeo but failed to capture their good looks. I would rather the engineers and chassis/steering tuners go after AR instead.

My disappointment stems from the fact that my current 2er ragtop (which I absolutely love) is now becoming increasingly problematic for my 2 grandkids (9 & 12yrs) from a rear seat legroom perspective. I've had nothing but BMWs for more years than half on this board have been alive and I was absolutely committed to replacing the M240xi ragtop with the new M440xi ragtop, but at this time, I just can't see myself shelling out $85K+ for what I've seen todate. I've tested the MB C43 and while it's looks nice, it's not even in the same area code as my M240xi when it comes to handling and performance (IMO) or fun factor.

I think your grills now look dated and too small. Mine do as well on my F82. I'm still thinking that this will be the most exciting 4 series/3 series coupe in a long time, if ever. It will translate well to the M3/4. Have faith, embrace the change. BMW had to do something to be competitive. It isn't time for evolution, they want to bring some revolution.

They'd be fine (and potentially cool) if they were 20% smaller and more proportional to the rest of the car, at least in my opinion.
