is it unethical if I get quotes from the BMW dealers
mentioned in this threads, then show those quotes to my local BMW dealer and have them price match? (assuming they're willing) back when I bought a Lexus several years ago, I also got a Lexus extended warranty from a well known out- of-state dealer who offered Lexus policies at almost 40% off... although none of my local Lexus dealers would price match it, so I bought it from the out-of-state Lexus dealer's finance dept. |

Not unethical at all, that is part of shopping around to get the best price.

That's basically what I did when I was shopping for my car. When you tell them that they know you're not kidding around. |

I miss Priceline's short-lived name-your-own-price car buying program back in 2000. That was how I purchased my Mercedes back then. I went to Priceline's website and named my price(which I believe was around $45000 for a E-class sedan with the exact options and color that I wanted) I did my research and came up with that price, which at the time was about 9% under MSRP. (could have been less, but I had been looking at all local MB dealers within 4 hours and knew only 2 out of them had the exact car that I wanted) Within a day, I got responses from a MB dealer who had the exactly what I wanted at the exact price that I submitted. The next morning, I went to that dealer with check in hand. Test drove that car and made sure it had exactly what I wanted and no issue. Then spent another hour waiting for the salesman and finance office to complete the paperwork. I drove out of their lot in less than 2 hours total Best car-buying experience I ever had... but since then, my car-buying experience had been downhill. Now with the pandemic excuse, dealers have the upper hand and people are lucky to get full MSRP without markups on German cars. |

Are there any recommendations for an extended warranty after 100,000 miles?
From looking on this thread you can get a warranty to 100k miles for about $3500. I’d like to keep my car a bit longer than that so was looking around. One of the websites I looked at was Endurance car warranty and that quote (36 months and 50,000 miles) was like $8000 so a bit pricey. |

One important point to remember is that these are legally insurance policies, not a product warranty, even if you buy them from BMW. If you buy the policy from BMW and then make a claim, most of the details are taken care of by the dealer, but it is handled differently than a claim on your original warranty.
When you buy insurance you can reduce premium cost by accepting a higher deductible, or accepting more exclusions from the policy. Once a car gets over 100k miles it is going to be a much more expensive premium because the risk of failure is much higher. Even the best of cars are going to have failures of water pumps, alternator and other parts after 100k miles. |
