Here's a machine learning upscaled photo. I need to not be so much of a car nerd

It looks great, makes it look more like a coupe and know more of that ugly looking rubber weather stripping around the doors.

If you look at pretty much any other M Sport BMW of the last 20 years, they have the thinner gloss black window trim and it looks far better close-up. |

I don't dislike the look of the link, but I hate the execution of both the kink and the trim. I always loved how BMW used to have its trim separate from the door. For one, slightly misaligned doors don't mess up the line. For two, it seemed to me more elegant to have the line maintained with the doors open. I imagine this was the more expensive way to produce cars, as everyone has shifted away from it and toward trim integrated into the doors. Finally, I hate how the kink looks like a stand-alone afterthought. If you're going to meld the trim with the door, continue it all the way...don't add a piece to it. I bring this up because I remember seeing this car back in a focus group study back in 2015 and there was no kink. I imagine this was raised by at least some consumers, believe me I did, and it almost looks like BMW said okay give 'em back the kink!

I haven't really seen a successful joined kidney grille in the new BMWs yet. The shape between the grilles is too flat of a surface or something, I'm not quite sure how to explain it. But the bit of material joining the grilles together just isn't integrated elegantly IMO. Maybe they'll figure it out better in future iterations. |
