The replay of the sound to make it sound natural would have to be synthesized so it's a moot point. Doesn't mean it was intended to make a fake sound.

Love the sound in the engine bay

I don't care for the blowoff valve. My favorite sound is the a external wastegate opening up. Nothing comes close

In the video, what does it mean when it says "engine only"? do you turn something off in order to have that sound all the time?

On top of everything said above, you will also notice the wooshing sound more when you are in an area where sound travels back to you. For example if you are driving near a center divider the sound travels back your way and it makes a more noticeable sound but it's definitely there you just have to build some boost and have the ears for it

I hear the whooshing with the window down. Much more so than in my old 335is actually. I love the spooling sound. And I honestly like the whole package of exhaust and engine noise..

adillon , I had a microphone in the engine compartment, so in the video, "Engine Only" means I am using only that sound. I guess I should have said "engine compartment only" or something like that, because the recorded sound is everything under the hood... engine, steering, belts, road noise, etc.

"Cabin Only" is just that, it's the sound inside the car.
"Both" is an artificial combination of both sounds (done on the computer, there is no real-life analog).

Oh ok understood. I'm just trying to figure out a way to make the spooling "sound louder". I love that sound; back in the day I had en Evo IX and the spooling sound was at least 3 times louder than this. I guess I would have to get some bolt ons, tune it and then I should be able to hear it more. If anyone has any other suggestion please let me know.
Maybe an aFe cai should do the trick... I want to hear those TT breaaaatheeee.........

To my understanding from a video that was interviewing a BMW engineer. The ASD selects "desirable tones" from the engine and plays them through the cars sound system. I don't know how true that is but the video stated. So maybe we could call it semi-real or semi-fake depending on type a person you are.

That's a Poopra though by the looks of it. Best sounding turbo cars ever.

I believe this engine doesn't have a factory diverter valve. I believe that when you let off the throttle the ecu uses the variable lift to open both intake and exhaust valves to dump the extra boost. That's why we get such a crazy gurgle sound out the exhaust on deceleration. I found this in the technical documents.

That is correct. See old thread on the topic: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1208681

Great read. I deduced that it had to work this way the other day when I did my intercooler and I was looking for them. (Obviously not there) so I look up the technical documents and saw advanced ecu controls relieves excess boost. Then put 2+2 together.

A tune pushing more boost and open intakes will probably make a huge difference. I wonder if they also have turbo mufflers.

That is true. When I rode in cars with JB4 and ESS piggyback tunes they were spooling and whistling like crazy. It also made me think they car was in sport++.
