if they make it as big as the outgoing 4er, they will lose a significant number of us who appreciate the just right size of the 2 series.

I chose the m2 over the m4 largely due to the size of the m2 (and all that comes with the more compact dimensions)

Seems like a trend. The new 4 series coupe is also heavier.

Actually just a little less than the outgoing 4 is a nice size.

For that's Goldilocks, current 4 is too long, current 2 just a little stubby at some angles (I'm not a hater put the pitch forks down had a 235i and M2)

Man... I thought bmws couldn't get uglier than the new 4er, but at least the new 4er is "distinctive"! The new 2er looks ugly and downright cheap... hopefully it'll still be fun to drive, and there's always the LCI to look forward to!

More like a "3", somehow thinking BMW won't mess this model up.

Interesting to see mercedes move to go 4 cylinder hybrid with the next gen C63 AMG. I think BMW inevitably will have to follow... Also very interested in Mercedes newly introduced electric turbo, that reduces lag. I would love to see BMW introduce a newly developed mild hybrid 4 cylinder engine for next gen M2, as long as It looks and sounds anything like the DTM, P48 engine with a plus 7K RPM redline. A carbon fiber roof and the new optional carbon bucket seats should bring overall weight down significantly. But hey, who am I...

The car doesn't even look like a gran coupe, there is nothing coupe like to the design outside of frameless windows. Years ago BMW said they were going to make 2-doors even series and 4-doors odd series, and then they pull the GC bs. 🤦
Thank you jstein55 for the direct answer. It saved me from having to research the difference.

Anyone else hoping that the new 2 series would have the size and performance of this (with spec bumps and updated bits, as appropriate)...

and the styling cues from this...

Notwithstanding that this doesn't look like any Honda at all, why is it necessary or relevant to talk trash of another manufacturer in a thread about the G42?
If you look at the 3D design of the tail light you will notice a remarkable amount of "over styling" and geometry that is very reminiscent to me of the "Gundam" style of the Honda Civic. While I appreciate the style I certainly don't want it on my car. I honestly wasn't "talking shit" on Honda.

Ugly hood line AGAIN!

Bye bye double headlamps

Let’s see what happens with the Hofmeister kink...

Door handles seem to be i4 alike (but not integrated with the belt character line

Top of the hood seems too high.

So no more double rings/halos, instead adopting something close to what the i3 and i8 had? Seriously BMW? Now I'm getting a bit upset...

Idk if it's just the photo you chose of the 2-series, but it looks fantastic here even next to the 8.

Agreed - and I never really like the 2er.

That's a series 1 gran coupé... or rather it's how it should have been called. This 4 doors gran coupe is not built on the upcoming 2 series platform but on the 1 series.

You know what's also disappearing? RWD compact cars. So I think losing the halo rings but clinging onto RWD (and probably also 6MT for the upcoming M2) looks like a fair deal to me. Of course, if the whole thing looks hideous, that's another problem, we'll see about that.
