2021 BMW 4Series Convertible NHTSA Recall Notice

This is the latest information from the NHTSA regarding the recall. No specific date when this issue will be resolved. Neither my CA or the BMW Genius have any more information. My 430i convertible has been in the US since March 3rd. Very frustrating! I'm sure all of us waiting for our cars would appreciate any updates others may hear about, especially any deliveries.

To be honest, I think the 440I convertible will be one of the nails in the coffin for the Z4. It brings a more practical convertible to the BMW lineup with nearly the same price and performance levels, but also available with xdrive. If you ask me now would I rather have my M340I and Z4, or just a 440I, I would mostly likely go with the 440I.

Cabrio in local showroom

Gotta agree with you Rob
The wait for mine to be built, shipped and arrival is the hardest part...

But at the same time they are all blocked, we do not know why, nor when it will be possible to have them, and nobody at BMW can tell us

I managed to get a BMW manager on the phone, the problem is the one already built, the airbags are defective.

Two solutions are tested, one will be to use another airbag but they do not know if it passes the European standards, and they should have the answer around mid April, and in this case delivery from May.

If not, no possibility before July minimum.

So those who have prices in stock, will be punished compared to those who ordered and will receive before, and especially with the correct corrected version

My M440i convertible arrived in the US this week. Per the NHTSA site, my car had been the subject of an unresolved recall, and I believe it is the same issue described here. However, according to my advisor, BMW was able to resolve the issue at the port via a software update, and my car was delivered to the dealer today. I will be picking it up in a few days.

I just re-checked the VIN on the NHTSA site and it no longer shows an unresolved recall for the car. Things may be different in Europe but it looks like BMW has resolved the issue in the US.

This is a very welcome news indeed, if all it takes is a software update.
Thank you and please do post some pics at or after vehicle pickup.

Yes as said in my message, in Europe the value of the update is not currently authorized, they must first test if valid and authorized by Europe, completely absurd

Anybody put a golf bag in the new 4 Series convertible? I looked at two new 4 Series convertibles yesterday (M440i and 430i) and wished I had my golf bag to place into the trunk. The new 4 Series trunk configuration was different than I expected with a shorter trunk lid (front to back) and appeared to be a couple inches shallower than my 435iX convertible's trunk, maybe not in centermost depth, but shallower at the two outboard ledge areas at the widest part of the trunk. Anybody with experience putting a golf bag with clubs into the new 4 Series convertible?

Yes -- I just picked up my M440i convertible and the first thing I did when I got home (after some spirited driving) was put my clubs in the trunk. I just had to take out the driver and lay it alongside the bag. See photo.

Will try to post some proper photos of the car itself over the weekend.

Got our Ragtop

We picked up our G23 convertible two days ago, we love it and the “nostrils” as one friend calls it has been pretty popular so far. A few folks have said it is not to their taste, add a few who probably don’t like them but are being polite, and I would guess that it is about 60% in favor. The soft top looks great to me but I have always loved ragtops. The trade offs that BMW made in choosing to go from hard top to soft elude me, but I love the result. It must be said though that I am not a purest, and have only been driving Bimmers for a couple of years now. Maybe that is the difference.

Thanks, it’s my wife’s ride, she is very happy. She is coming out of a 5.0 Mustang GT. I feel like it’s a little under powered but, like I said, it’s her ride.

The tech will take a little adjusting, but overall it’s a solid car. Haven’t found anything to complain about. It’s nice that they include the rear seat wind block. It’s tucked away in a case behind the rear seat back. The trunk (boot) is tight but they needed room to put the soft top away. The rag top only has two seams running from front to rear, none across the car which gives it a cleaner look to me. At 122 miles on the clock it’s not really fair to judge it yet, but I think it is a keeper.

It was a software fix here. We were held up for less than a week. I’m sure you will get them soon.

In Europe they don't accept this, so we have to wait.

Europe is a special world, you know ;-)

Heh Glenn.
Excellent colour choice, esp with Cognac Vedasca leather. The first choice for my m440i Cab on order was also arctic blue on cognac, but kids and wifey unanimously voted for Dravit Grey on Cognac, which I'm fine with. They weren't against Arctic Grey but thought I've had a somewhat similar Stratus Blue Audi Q5 back in 2010.
My only peeve with BMW Cabriolets is that their back seat leather seems rather loose with creases and sags. I think Mercedes make the best soft top and interior seat leather qualities. They're taut and snug. Absolutely no sags nor creases since day one and after an almost 3 year's lease.
Anyway, like I say, great choice and your wifey will be enjoying her new ride for sure.
On another note, I really feels for our European members whose built cabriolet orders are still on Hold due to a rather stringent or like they say..its quite a different world there.

Well I must agree that the seat covering could be tighter, it’s not an annoying degree of slack, but it is noticeable and it should be better for the price range of these cars.
My local dealer has an M4 in Dravit grey on the showroom floor and it is awesome. I’m sure you will love it.
