all cars built after sep.19 got the new "design" . no burbles, no pops and bangs.
in november 19 bmw made a software update and subsequently changed the sound
of all cars were built before Oct. 2019

i recommend all 2019/2020 model owner to be carefull with softwareupdates. in germany bmw elimitaded the sound without informing the owner. no information, no transparancy. no communication...

welcome onboard!
Mine was built in middle of October 2019 and still have pops/burbles like crazy
Software which is on my car is 2019/07.

So changes should come in November 2019.

Do you know if 330is are also affected? The changes are probably for Europe only... We have loud cars everywhere here, makes no sense that they would care about something like this.

As a reference, my 330i (USA) is on 07/2020.60 and pops/burbles as usual. Built in 10/2019.

in germany/europe the 330i is also affected. it is a little complicated… my english is not that good, but i try to explain

what i definetly can say is, all 21 models will be affected. 40i and 30i!
in europe is a seperation with the update and changing the Sound afterwards.

if your car was built before or in october, you'll keep your sound
if your car was delivered after october with the old software, they will update it
if your car comes with the new software you can not install a older Version.
if your car was built before update and before oct 2019 updates will not change your sounddesign

but all new 21 models will have the restricted sound design.

That's terrible... I hope something can be done about this. I don't know how they can keep using their "ultimate driving machine" slogan but shafting enthusiasts...

My experience so far with my '21 is that you get the most pops/burbles in that 3.5-5k range. Any above, even at WOT has much less drama. This was not my experience driving the '20.

The funny thing is, though, that the behavior on the '21, with the overruns at 3.5k, is very consistent with the behavior of the S58 in the X3M. That car, too, has few burbles and really only around 4K.

In Sport+ my 2020 with MPE was MUCH MUCH louder than yours in that video. A ton more pops and burbles at all RPM's and especially on downshifts. To me your 2021 with MPE almost sounds like my 2020 did before I had the MPE installed.

Software update inbound for my 2021, not expecting it to alter the sound based on what was stated above though.

In terms of volume compared to my 2020 test drive mine is at lease 40% louder. The burbles on the 2020 was more consistent but without the MPE it was very muffled and I left that test drive kind of depressed at how muffled the burbles were. On my 2021 to my ear the burbles sound about 10-15% louder which is kind of depressing but because the exhaust note itself is much louder it doesn't bother me too much. I don't want my car sounding like those Honda fart cans ether

On the other thread; People are saying it's now controlled in your iDrive menu for the 21's.

There's been a few 21 owners in North America who have already said they don't have that option through iDrive.

This is getting weird. Some have it, some do not. Maybe it's after a certain build date?

My build date was mid-August 2020 (MY 2021). I do not have the option in iDrive.

Not positive, but I think it's location based. The UK doesn't have it but Germany seems to have it. I don't think anyone from the US or Canada have confirmed having it.

If it's in iDrive shouldn't we be able to unlock it with coding?

Don't get me wrong- it still sounds good and idc about the pops and bangs as much as some others do but my stock 2020 had WAY more pops and bangs.

With my Dinan exhaust it's literally twice as much burbles as what was recorded in this video. Not necessarily a bad thing but def different. Still sounds good w your set up and would have went the MPE route if they had an option to get rid of those trapezoidal exhaust tips

I agree I would prefer the quad tips but I guess that's exclusive for the M3/4. That is also interesting that the 2020 really had more pops and bangs coming from a c43 I'm pretty happy I would only want the pops and bangs to be about 20% louder

AWE options sound super good too as those are full exhaust systems over the axle back dinan/MPE. Could prob get even louder if ya went that route w their res delete option
