Busy, unresolved design.
The rear looks like it has a wedgie — no wonder the headlights are "wincing." Menacing? Most definitely not.

And the rear bumper is objectively ridiculous looking with that fake diffuser taking up most of the rear end, the front end is passable for me but that rear is comically bad. |

Normally i would talk alot of shit about this design, but after the 4 series, X7, 7 series. I am perfectly OK with this LCI.
As far as bumper, i am not sure why anyone is surprised. Take a look at the bumper from the X3 LCI, you should have guessed that is the direction BMW is going with. You all know, it could be A LOOOOOOT worse. |

All of these cars have the m badge on the front fender, not sure why anybody would think these are NOT the m-sport bumpers.
real let down, I'm a big fan of the current 3-series design - I saw one yesterday and thought it looked great. These LCI cars just seem cheaper and plainer. |

When I see an E90 LCI M sport on the road today, I still think it looks great. Consider the lengths BMW went to improve the design of that car compared to this.

G60 would like a word with you, from what I've seen, it looks so awful.

It's amazing they would take such a step back. The G20 and the slit in the headlights that gives it that aggressive look could have easily been the design cue that set BMW apart, but instead they chose to throw it out in exchange for boring lifeless lights.

I feel the same way when I plunk down like $4,000 for the latest model camera or TV and the next year I see SONY released an objectively better version, for the same cost. 😙 It's a chase you could never win. I do a lot of mental gymnastics and rationing to convince myself that my current device in hand is just as or better than their new offering and not to feed the manufacture twice. My thoughts: Yes, BMW design language is deviating from their norms and the new ones are aesthetically becoming an acquired taste, where it's not always love at first sign but you have to grown into accepting it. One thing folks can't deny, regardless how they look, the performer is up there in tenfolds! And they obviously have no problem moving units. The M340i first year model is hoot to whip around the open road, just sheering driving pleasure in sleeper form. It really gave me flashbacks to a tuned 135i N54 with FBO but in a much more stable package. I imagine this new one builds on this. The subjective looks takes a backseat to its undeniable performance and to be honest, they really didn't change anything drastically, bodywise. The blandish diffuser can be painted to the body color or now replaced with a M Performance carbon fiber version. Problem solved. |
