Is There an Alternative Summer Tire to MICHELIN PS4S?
I am wondering if the MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4S remains the best Max Performance Summer tires.
Two years ago I had them on a Porsche 987 and I recall they were impressive, super comfortable, you could feel the grip on every turn, but were the most expensive ones. During this last year, I had a newer more powerful Porsche 718 and it came with Pirelli P Zero, and I didn't like them so much, it felt less comfortable and less grip, although it remained a good ride after I got used to them. I wonder if there is a newer alternative that might be at the level of the PS4S? I've read good comments on Continentals ExtremeContact Sport, and I see there have a new model v02 available but with no reviews in Tirerack. There is also a new Michelin PS5 but very few sizes available. Looking forward for your comments. |

Conti Sport Contact 7 & Goodyear Eagle F1 Assym 6 are equal
if you can get your hands on them! they're like hen's teeth to find. not sure why the P Zeroes with their F1 tech is so bad. |

I honestly think this is a bit subjective depending on your needs and wants. The PS4S is still considered the king in the max performance summer category. I've driven them, and I ran the MPSS previously. That said, I now run Conti Extreme Contact Sports and they're amazing too. It rains hard here and wet traction on the Conti is top notch. Better than the Michelin IMO. You do give up some to the Michelin in perfect conditions. It's a trade-off. Just my opinion.

I think they're great, I ran them on my last car too and got over 30k out of them. They're pretty quiet, hook well, predictable. A little "lighter" feeling than the PS4S IMO. PS4S is the steering feel king, but the Conti is fun. Playful feeling.

As an update I ended up getting the new model from Continental, the Extreme Sport 02. Having had the Michelin PS4 before I can attested that during there first 2 rides they felt very similar in grip and a bit more comfortable. They were $500 less than the PS4 for the full set.

Conti SC7
I'm a Michelin groupie but would like to try the Continental Sport Contact 7 this next round if they become available somewhere. This review got me thinking.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t10y-87oiD4&t=1s

MPSS?
I've also been considering going back to Pilot Super Sports. When I first made the switch to MPS4S, I recall that I thought they couldn't quite match the Super Sports cornering feel, particularly at the limit. The Super Sports feedback it seemed was more precise. I do know that I wouldn't hesitate to install Super Sports if MPS4Ss weren't in stock.

I've been using them for a couple of weeks now and even 1 long trip. The new Contis Extreme 02 are impressive. Same comfortable grip feel as the PS4, very happy with them.
