Did my dealership sell my allocation?

I ordered a 3 series a couple of weeks ago and received the production number and VIR. Been tracking that production number and everything was accurate on the website. On Monday my dealership told me that the car is set to begin production next week. On Tuesday, the car randomly changed interior/exterior colors on the BMW website. I called the BMW Genius who noted this was not a mistake and the colors in fact were accurate.

I texted my salesman who said there was a "glitch" with the BMW website and that it was fixed and sent me a new production number. I asked if the car was still scheduled for production at the same time and he said yes. I called the BMW Genius today who told me that the new production number is not scheduled to begin production until mid-April (a month later than the original).

Meanwhile, the original production # I was given is currently in production.

Did they sell my allocation? Or was there truly a glitch?

Kind of sounds like someone paid to skip the line. If you have other dealers nearby, I would try to find another March allocation.

Did you give them a security deposit? If so that's pretty shady of them

If you paid via credit card, you probably have grounds to dispute to get your deposit back. If they can’t produce what you paid for, should be easy.

This def sounds like a bait and switch. I avoid non refundable deposits.

Non-refundable? That was the first red flag. Dispute it and go in and raise hell. Get your money and go elsewhere.

At this point I've got 2 other dealers that I am trying to match the lease payment on and if they have an upcoming allocation I'm going to request my deposit back (or dispute with the bank if they refuse). I don't see any reason why the bank wouldn't side with me since I never signed anything.

Or use a broker. Cheaper than a deposit. There are definitely deals to be had with the 3 series at the moment.

He called me back today and said that the BMW website actually deleted my order. He said he's never seen that happen before. I think it's a little suspicious.

Yeah, that doesn’t pass the smell test.

Yeah, I don't think that's a thing that happens. I mean you saw it go in production.

Either they sold your allocation or BMW pulled the dealership’s allocation. Either way, giant red flag. Go to a different dealership or use a broker. You’ll have a much better experience.

It’s business, there’s no loyalty except to money. Take yours elsewhere.
