Power dashcam from OBD2 port?
Looking for solutions for dashcam power. Not looking to hardwire at this point, but looking for a clean install. I can tuck the wires easily enough, so is it ok to hook up a dashcam to the obd 2 port? Or should I stick with the 12v socket?

My G22 trigger the alarm if an OBD2 reader is left in the port when the car is locked. The manual says that it also senses erroneous use of the OBD port.
I don't know if only supply connection would trigger it. Besides that, do you know that the OBD port is designed to supply enough power? |

The USB in the boot turns off after about 20 minutes, which is good - the dash cam wouldn't drain your battery on a continuous port. The cable tucked into the lining nicely, and no cabling was exposed. On a saloon model G20/G21 you need 7 metres. |

Running the Thinkware U1000 4K UHD Dual-Channel Cloud Dash Cam off the OBD2 port with no issues. Works great! I also have voltage protection on and parking mode turned on.
