Just purchased '19 330i - What are my Warranty Options?
Just purchased 2019 330i xDrive - 78K miles
Apparently, the original owner had purchased the Maintenance pkg as well as Ultimate Care- Platinum. Was hoping those could transfer over to me as the new owner... Apparently, bc the car was traded into a dealership first and then I bought it from the dealership (not private party directly) that voids the ability to transfer over the Maintenannce? |

Welcome to the forum. I think maybe you got some bad information. First of all, there is no such thing as Ultimate Care Platinum, Ultimate Care goes by +1, + 2 and +3. Are you perhaps referring to an Extended/Vehicle Service contract which is BMW's name for an extended warranty, that has to be a private sale.
Ultimate Care+ is only transferable when the vehicle is purchased from a BMW dealer. For private party sales it can't be transferred. "BMW Ultimate Care+ is transferable to subsequent owners and lessees sold or leased by an authorized BMW Center" https://bmwusaservice.com/ultimateca...20BMW%20Center.

Alright thanks!
So the Ultimate Care/Maintenance can't be transferred. I'll have to purchase my own. And yes I was referring to the extended warranty. I believe the vehicle had BMW platinum. I was under the impression that it could be transferred, but sounds like maybe not - due to the fact the vehicle was traded in to the dealership I bought from and not private party. So... that leaves me with starting from scratch. What types of coverage (if any) would everyone recommend for 2019 330i xDrive - 78K miles. Purchase from a bmw dealership or third party? |

None, they rarely make financial sense.

Right, but neither does home insurance, medical insurance, car insurance, heck - pet insurance. If life goes to plan (and it does more often than not) you’re going to pay a fair amount more in premium’s than you ever are going to claim. HOWEVER, making money is not the purpose of insurance. You get it to to manage risk and to avoid a catastrophic loss that might lead to financial ruin. Insurance company’s certainly wouldn’t be in business if everyone was making money off them!
Same applies to aftermarket car warranty’s. Obviously there are some unscrupulous company’s that have tarnished the industries reputation. But like anything, being an informed customer is paramount to protecting yourself from unfoseen mechanical failures. A while back I posted in detail about the differences between an inclusionary and exlusionary warranty. Feel free to search my previous posts.
