Opinions on options for purchasing a Used M340i xDrive
New to the forum and hoping to learn a bit more about this car from current knowledgable and experienced owners. I recently sold my 2015 Volkswagen GTI with APR Stage 2 tune. Currently in the market for a 2020+ BMW M340i. I am hoping to find one for $42,500 or under. I currently have two options in my Chicagoland area.
1. 2020 BMW M340i xDrive in Portimao Blue with Black interior. $41,989 with 43,208 miles. Clean Carfax 1-Owner. 2. 2021 BMW M340i xDrive in Black Sapphire Metallic with Cognac interior. $41,941 with 41,824. Clean Carfax 1-Owner. I have read that many prefer the 2020s with a better exhaust sound and easier to tune or would opting for the new vehicle with slightly less miles be better? Would you lean towards either of the two or with a budget of $42,500 (before tax, title and license fees) wait for a better option to come along or is it a pipe dream that I get anything under 30-40k miles at that price range? Thank you all in advance for any feedback! |

The suspension on these cars means everything, especially in Chicago, specifically if one of the cars is fitted with the Adaptive M Suspension. Check the VIN's or the website descriptions and let us know if either car has that option.
After that, the tiebreakers boil down to things like the HK audio system, laser headlights, cameras, a BMW is truly an a-la-carte vehicle, so if one of these cars has some of these major options and the other doesn't, that's a major factor as well. This is far more important than an exhaust note. So, please give us much more detail on the options on these cars so we can give good guidance. |

I found another JBM 2020 that has less miles than both, with a list price only $500 more, but has the same packages as the JBM 2021 but also comes with Adaptive M Suspension so that is where I will start my search. Thanks! |

Finally made the purchase on an M340i xDrive! Opted for a 2021 in Portimao Blue with Cognac interior with 11k miles and super clean Carfax. Also includes Adaptive M Suspension, HK audio, as well as premium, parking and driving assistance packages. Love it!

Yeah it took me a few weeks at least to find a deal. I test drove a 2020 before I test drove and bought this one. It was in Tanzanite Blue, similar options, but had twice as many miles. List price was around $44,500. Downside of that car is it had a gazillion swirl marks. They told me they would buff out but I had doubts. Regardless I sat down to talk numbers out of curiosity and they wouldn’t do any lower than $52,300. Completely ridiculous. Looking at the price breakdown they had over 3 grand lumped into government fees (probably illegal and they just only format it that way during the negotiation process they create a different category for the signed deal since they now have you locked in on a price no matter what it’s for. Then I had to call them out on a $695 fee to process a check stating the ladies in billing needed to get paid too. I walked out immediately.

Congrats on the purchase, very beautiful color!
I have a 2021 model as well, very similar option but RWD. Maybe i haven't drive one without Adaptive M suspension so i couldn't really tell the difference with or without one. Mine has 24,000 miles but seems like the used car market has come down greatly. Last Dec i was able to get quote for around 42k, now about 36-38k. Thinking about buying it off at lease end, crazy dealers want 50k plus. |

I’ve heard the MPE exhaust is great and I like the idea of going OEM+ but I am not a huge fan of the look with the fake exhaust cutouts. I was thinking of going with Dinan.
