That's a good question. Apparently Bimmercode references the ASD option, but I still don't know whether the feature actually exists in the M340i. Maybe someone with Bimmercode has tried turning ASD on/off for their M340i and could comment on the effect, if any.

When addressing a couple of minor issues for my M340i, my dealer recently updated my iDrive software to 03/2021.30, and the Engine Sound option shown earlier in this thread is still not there.

Was there ever any definitive answer as to whether or not the 2020 M340i has ASD. I don't have the option to change the sound on my iDrive either. I wonder if that means it isn't' there?

It's there you just need to enable it.

Engine sound refers to both ASD and exhaust valve. Either ASD is loud (maybe just on I don't know) and exhaust is loud, or ASD quiet (or off I don't know, can't hear it) and exhaust quiet.

Can ASD sound level be increased beyond 'sport', perhaps with coding?

I coded it using bimmercode expert mode, I now have the menu in idrive

However ASD and Exhaust Valve are two different things, ASD menue does not control opening of the valve, it is simply software amplification.

You can using BimmerLink (diagnostics app) turn on and off ASD and also you can open and close valve permanently.

I tried driving with ASD off but I liked it ON - not a huge difference but it sounds slightly better and I can hear it better over when music is played

I coded this menu on and ASD off. This menu gives direct manual control of the exhaust valve and it works great for that. I can hear the valve motor operate and sound change on my AA exhaust when selecting between Sporty and Reduced so I know 100% it works for that purpose. Lots of debate here on it, this is how it works, I can confirm.
