metal flakes in oil filter
Hi guys im new to the b58 car, i had a kia stinger before but wanted to get something a lil better, I have a 2020 BMW with about 25k miles on it. After driving for 1k miles, I decided to change the oil and found some metal flakes in the filter but none got through it. The car's Carfax showed previous oil changes but the filter looked like it had never been changed before. When draining out old oil there were no flakes since they went through a clean filter which surprised me! should i take it to the dealership to get it inspected or is this a small problem? (the car has a cel and i don't know why)

Why do you believe the filter wasnt changed? Usually they are dark black and shriveled up if not changed before 15k miles.
I have also found a few metal flakes in my filters, 6 or 7 to be exact since May 2020.i examine my filters after every oil change. If you could post a photo of the old filter with flakes visible, thatd be great. |

Generally speaking it's normal. Pics would provide an idea of what you mean by "some".
