Crystal shifter
Hi Everyone,
I have a bmw m440i 2023 convertible and just purchased a crystal shifter. I’ve heard a lot of people frying their console when putting it in so i really need to disconnect the battery first. I have found the battery at the back of the trunk under the carpet and will take off the negative one, however i saw there is another battery under the hood. Do i need to disconnect this one too and if so, how do i do so and is it negative too? Thanks so much Pic attached |

If you pop the hood, the 48v battery becomes disconnected. When you disconnect the battery in the trunk, put something over the latch to stop it being closed accidentally as you will have no power to open it again.

I've installed the crystal shifter and crystal idrive multimedia cover.
I've got MHB M340i and I can confirm if you open the bonnet (hood) and disconnect the rear main battery it cuts all electrical power to the vehicle. After disconnecting the battery I left the car door open and put the key inside my house, waited 5-10 minutes before testing electrics. From there I removed the shifter module and attached the new crystal shifter and multimedia cover. Many videos on YouTube to follow it took me approx 45 minutes to an hour taking my time. After reconnecting the shifter module I reconnected the battery then closed the bonnet. All data from idrive remained too. Definitely a worthy upgrade! Also added crystal start/stop button and volume button previously to complete the look 😁😎 |

I have oem BMW glass
You can see the difference in idrive knob, OEM is thicker with thinner edge on the top. But it is a lot of work with original parts. You need to change start/stop button support, so you need to take whole console apart. Also for iDrive knob you need to change whole knob. I don't want to have fake stuffs in my car. Now is four year old and everything on it is OEM BMW, even windshield wipers |
