Imho the M8 will get at least 625 HP and M8 Competition even 20 to 25 HP more.

Fuel Consumption Analysis

Combined: 22.40 MPG based on 10,5 l/100 km conversion from the press on F9x (S58), compared to F80 (S55), 20 MPG (manual) and 19 MPG (DCT). With lighter weight construction on G8x, expecting it with much better fuel consumption.

I really hope that the co2 emissions will be well below 201 g/km because the Belgium government is killing the sales of high performance cars every year more and more for environmental reasons which is ridiculous considering the fact that 2000 KM further (in the eastern block) they don't care about this.

Where did you get the 22.40 MPG from? Is that according to WLTP? Because 22,40 MPG would translate to a co2 of approximately 243 g/km and this just can't be correct. Or you mean that this number is based on actual consumption? After 85.000 kilometers (52.816 miles) my average fuel consumption is 10.7 l/100 KM which translates to approximately 20 MPG (US).

S58 engine

Looks like the G80 will have a nice baseline to start. I figure maybe 530hp for the CS and 550hp for the CSL.

In the X3M/X4M video, she revved it up to 5k rpm. The sound is overall a bit deeper than S55 ZCP, and more importantly is less raspy - though we're not sure about the last 2k rpm of S58.

Fitted with MPE, or even stock ZCP muffler, S55 sound is acceptable below 4k (and some of us even think it's good) but above that it's terribly raspy.

Do you really think that from a marketing point of view they decided to have the X3M walk with the honour of the new I6 engine, well yes for now until they release the M3 mid-2020.

There is some contradictory information in the released spec sheets and if you read between the lines you know that they can squeeze more out of this engine and the redline will be at least 100 RPM higher. In my opinion this is exactly what BMW will do.

The situation would be different if the M3 would also be released in the next months but we are talking about probably more than a year between the availability of the X3M and the M3. I guess that time will tell...
What I think is that this is a motor that is better optimized for handling. The oil supply, 3D printing of the molds, which leaves smooth flow. This motor will be capable of 600 HP w a simple tune - ESS, Hex, etc... know what I mean. I cannot wait to get my hands on this thing.

I don't know too much about turbos vs. compression ratio tuning, but what are the implications of lowering the compression ratio so much from S55 vs. S58? More boost?

Yes, the trade-off being the engine will make less power off boost, but that shouldn't be an issue.

Are those two high pressure fuel pumps? That makes me nervous on principle, though I probably shouldn't be.

Also curious if the engine versions are simply detuned/less boost or if there are internal differences. I'd be more comfortable with a flash tune than just raising the redline. A lot needs to happen for an engine to safely rev to 7500+.

Why? The M3 isn't their flagship model either, nothing to suggest that they will bring more power or will need to it'll weigh 300kg+ less for a start.

It's interesting that people have issues with the S55 exhaust rasp when everybody seemed to love the equally, if not more, raspy S54 exhaust note.

Drove the X3M with it in it the other day...this engine is gonna be a beast!! Plus! No more "active sound" they're pulling a play from Porsche and pipe in actual exhaust sound via a flap system like the 911 does (according to the BMW M team guys).

Didn't somebody say the new X has active sound? I could have sworn that I read that.

I'm only regurgitating what the "///M specialists" stated as far as specs, and the sound in the cabin sure sounded and "felt" different than either of the F8X cars I've owned, so don't take it as holy gospel, but it sure seemed to fit in the "myth busters" plausible file.

Does it pull hard to the redline or die off nearing it?

Still upset about lower rpm due to ZFat.

Forged crankshaft means they are lighter? If so, do they help the engine rev faster?

Also looks like peak HP dies off after 6,250 rpm, according the new technical doc posted.

I sure hope the M3 and M4 are mapped differently.

I believe if you look at the graphics as well as specs sheets for the x3m peak power runs as plateau right to the redline
