Agree that G20 is over styled and the Merc is the best looking even though it's the oldest.

Audi always looks good. BMW needs to learn and stop over styling.

Love hearing the G2x brings back the BMW feel from all the reviewers. Now, I need to go drive one.

Also enjoyed these guys comments on the turbo 4s. They are literally all the same. Folks, get the inline 6!

I thoroughly enjoyed this review.
From the garbage bag with superfluous badges to the indirect jab at the generic feel of turbo four pots.

I do like that they tried to give an apples-to-apples review (all three cars were similarly spec'd and all three had AWD systems) and the video overall was very informative.

Their interior sit-in comparisons and direct comparisons of the infotainment systems, materials, and digital gauge clusters was excellent.
Their very brief 0-60(0-100km/h) comparison was another humorous jab at not just the similarities of the horsepower and I-4 turbo, but also at internet trolls and some other reviewers/magazines for putting so much focus on 0-60 (0-100km/h) times.

Glad to see overall positive impressions of the G20.
Looking forward to driving the G20 when I get the chance to see how much of this is true.

Loved the opening with the fake badges joke, very good.

Good review as well.

You think the 6 cyl versions in all 3 are more differentiated than the 4's?

Well, the BMW has an I6 vs. the Audi V6 shared with Porsche, and the Mercedes V6 is just old now. Relatively, there is a lot bigger difference.

inline or not, the engine, its delivery characterists and noise emitted is really quite similar to that of the audi/porsches. im not a huge fan of the merc engine either but its still similar enough to say all 3 6's are as similar as all 3 4's

No, it’s really not. There’s a reason BMW has maintained its commitment to the inline six.

Drive a C300 or E300 and you will be constantly reminded, at all times, that you are driving a gutless and noisy 4 pot turbo. Not so with the BMW and Audi engines.

Mercedes is going back to the in-line 6 engines after a 20+ year hiatus.

Agreed, in fact the new kidney grill isn't even any bigger than the Mercedes grill.

I'm not so sure. I noticed that the Audi S4 5-60 time is much worse than I expected so I imagine that engine has a lot more lag once moving.

It seems to me that the MB front Tristar had also grown in size over the years too

Not to mention, the need of putting another badge as a hood ornament?

Emission standards have greatly influenced the evolution 4 cylinder engines. I agree with earlier comments that the current generation of 4 cylinder engines are perhaps operating beyond the intended design envelope: harsh, "gutless", over boosted, noisy. In 1975, Mitsubishi was the first to add balance shafts to its 4 cylinder 4G5 engine. The biggest 4G5 version displaced 2.6 liters and featured fuel injection and turbo charger. Not much has materially changed since other than more sophisticated DME software, injectors, intercoolers - in other words optimize fuel mixture, add boost while allowing computers to manage the risks.

Direct injectors are wonderful when they work. When they fail (N20 has a history of failing injectors), the fuel dumped into the cylinder erases any fuel economy goals.

I drove every vehicle in F3x class with a 4 cylinder engine and could not see myself driving the car. No amount of electronics would hide it. B58 is my engine of choice now while N55 was in my previous vehicle.
